Minolta Di-450, anybody seen this before? http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/8660/di450linestz7.jpg (http://imageshack.us) I have two machines at different locations doing this. One is used as a copier and the other one mainly as a printer. Any idea's? Hans

It is a problem with the cleaning blade pressure. Renew the spring as well as the blade and make sure the blade is lubricated with dusting powder. Sometimes you can clear it by moving the blade towards the drum a little.

You have seen this exact problem before? or are you guessing? I ask because i have a couple of these machines doing this periodically (maybe 1 out of 300 copies). notice how the lines are perfectly symmetrical. seems if it was a cleaning blade the lines would be a bit irregular. not that I don't trust you, just in my nature to question

I would change the drum blade (vac out cleaner unit thoroughly) and clean/service the coronas. Maybe change the recovery blade too.

didn't say nothing about the drum? i bet about when i use a NON OEM drum this feature is present ... with same period

Believe me it is the blade..I have had this problem myself..also it is a known Minolta Database fault with the fix from japan!

Thanks guys. I forgot to add (yes sometimes I can be very, VERY sloppy) that it occurs only from time to time. Once within 100 prints/copies or so, sometimes first only. My guts is telling me that it might have something to do with the aftermarket drums I'm using (this was suggested here too). Both machines got a new drum weeks before this happened. BUT........, the second machine I had to replace the drum once again last week for unrelated reasons (it had a blade flip and got damaged) and I took this time a drum + cleaning blade from another aftermarket supplier giving the same phenomena. Will go there and clean drumshaft and contacts first and see how it develops. Hans

Do you have for me please that Minolta Database information and the fix as well? Hans

Here's another one, this is the other machine. What's worrying me is that the lines a so symmetrically spaced from each other. They are somehow a little fuzzy that's why I don't believe that its coming from the laser. http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/9351/di450lines2wy5.jpg (http://imageshack.us) Hans

I have reseated the connectors to the laser assembly before for this. I've had this on more than one machine. Make sure thumb screws above drum module (they hold the laser in ) are removed. I believe this is caused by noise in the system and makes laser go crazy. Reseated those connectors and haven't seen again.

Good luck.

If you're having blade flip issues, try rubbing the new blade on the back of the old blade to get a bit of toner on it. Also, (I know this sounds like I smoke crack but I don't) try spraying some brillianize on a rag and wiping it onto the drum. It doesn't effect CQ and keeps the blades from flipping. On the CF5001, I use brillianize on the xfer belts and haven't ever had a blade flip on those.

Many thanks for all the input guys. I think all hints into the direction of the cleaning blade where correct. I went to the customer again last Friday and found out that the cleaning blade holder was sitting on the mylar which should normally be in front of that holder. http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/3741/di450lines29062008qk2.jpg (http://imageshack.us) The two bulges in the mylar corresponds more or less with the two curvings on the left side of the mysterious lines. The mylar sitting under the cleaning blade holder instead of being in front of it prevented the cleaning blade from resting in the proper position and the two bulges pushed from backwards the rubber of the blade towards the drum causing additional uneven pressure. So in the future when those lines come back, first thing I will do is checking the cleaning blade and how it sits. BTW: This occurred not because the Tech had a bad day when installing the new blade but because, as mentioned before, there was a blade flip previously what lifted up the whole assembly causing the mylar to creep under it. Lots of thanks for all your efforts. Hans

It is a problem with the grounding of the photoconductor drum

Ground spring cleaning and spring with a hook pull back (in the direction of drum axis)

Unfortunately, I clean the spring - without success ...

Svety, everything is pointing towards the cleaning blade. Several techs in other boards said this as well as the Minolta bulletin ís mentioning it. For me it looks more like a cleaning blade "jumping" over the drum than any electrostatic, charge/discharge issue. This especially after I found one of my machines doing this with a cleaning blade not sitting properly. See the above. Hans

Hi Hans, Yes I think so. Unfortunately, I have not this mylar. I ordered and I will try. I don't know exactly the role of this plastic strip. Maybe it decreases the vibration of the blade - I think the lines mark exactly vibrations of bale. Anyway I have to wait. If you have any news please, let me know. Thanks Svet.

Man that faulty image looks all laser-ish, but most of the time its the blade put a new one in correctly........................... I have seen a bad fratastat valve cause this also, the one right down near the canibbling rod.:p

Its not a matter that the mylar must be present, if present, it should not hinder the cleaning blade. Did you try another cleaning blade and/or did you try reseating? BTW How can you order that mylar? There's no part number for it in the manual. I think it comes mounted ready on the bracket Pos.20 #1136-5522-01. Hans
