Hi all,
just a quick question, I know many of you have talked about the clutches in paper pickups as I've read loads of threads which have help me massively but I'm not sure which clutch (or is it a case of all them) need changing.
if you see the attached is it the two smaller ones no 11 or the bigger no 25?
many thanks Paul.

All of the clutches can be cleaned. They get rusty inside and a wipe with some alcohol fixes them. Just gently remove the star ring with a small screwdriver. It is quite easy.

I shall give cleaning them ago.
thanks Paul.

Cleaning almost always fixes them, but it is always a good idea to have new ones with you in case cleaning doesn't work.

What's your preferred alcohol? Mines red wine but I think in this case it would be methylated spirits :)
also do you take them off and soak them for a certain amount of time or just get in there and spray them and get a brush on them?
many thanks Paul.

Hi there!
We use either "tuner-spray" or brake-cleaning-spray.

Whisky is the alcohol I use to forget my day, but I use 99% isopropyl for cleaning clutches. I don't soak them, I gently remove the star ring and wipe the contact surfaces with the alcohol.

We spray the #25 clutch with CRC electronics cleaner (Walmart auto Dept $4.77)
We take the one-way bearings #11 off of the shaft & flush with 90% isopropyl alcohol, and if there is a shine on the shaft, we burnish the shaft with scotch brite or super fine sandpaper like 400 grit. Replace tires about every 100k.
