After installing parts update to special firmware for this issue.

I read somewhere that a firmware level addresses this, but haven't had much luck that way. In most cases it clears as a system error and continues to return more and more frequently until you change the CCD assy. 100% success with the CCD. =^..^=

had this before,

replaced everything, nothing fixed it, till...

Turned out to be MFP board in the end.

On mine it was absolutely persistent and would error immediately on reset, there was no guessing involved.

It was a brand new machine and failed on delivery to the customer - we gave them another one and I fixed it back in the workshop.

If you do the special firmware before failure it can save the ccd. If the error comes up first then you have to replace the bad parts(s) then do the firmware to keep it from coming back....

Is it just the "e" version that gets this code, what about the C454? Just sold a few of the regular C454's, off lease lower meters around 100-150k.

Seeing these for the first time I really didn't see much of a difference between these and the 20-35 ppm machines that I usually sell. I was really disappointed that they weren't a little heavier built. Unless I missed some things? I really didn't have much time to look at them because I took them directly from wholesaler to customer.

How are these C454/554 models?

Thanks

Only the "e" series seem to be vulnerable to the C9401's. =^..^=

4 series have been pretty reliable - the last versions of the e series are the most reliable paper jam wise - the fuser exit jams on earlier versions and non-e's due to damp paper in humid environments is quite prolific, but they can ALL be modified to the later version anyway. its just time consuming. Depending on where you live in the world, you may never see the problem anyway. Other than that and the crappy tray 2 vertical roller, which i simply replace on every machine, e or non e for the modified grooved roller, popping option tray clutches etc they are pretty good.

The single sided document feeder df-624 is garbage, the DF-701 is better. fortunately they are rarely purchased at my company.

If the customer has any sort of crappy originals they will be scanning in duplex be prepared to change the mylar under the black jam access door in the top cover. it has cut outs in it for ribs to mesh into, it does not take much damage for it to lift at one edge and cause regular jamming on duplex. (df-624) It has supporting mylars under it which either migrate upwards or were incorrectly installed at the factory causing this lift too. Metric paper sizes at greater risk of jamming in long edge feed - imperial probably wont be an issue.

So this is basically the same as a C254? No parts are more heavy duty on the C454/554?

I cant speak for others but I've got a couple c554's well into the 2 million pages now. They're pretty decent machines. Oh, and the rego units seize anywhere between 200 - 700k depending on environment if not regularly lubed.

Off the top of my head, the fusers are more serious in the 454 and 554, you have the option of changing toners without stopping the machine on the 45 and 55 and you have the option of the more heavy duty finisher FS-535. 45 and 55 machines have direct drive motor driven reg unit and the slower machines its clutch operated. Cant remember much else.
