This started as a thumping sound, then a screeching sound.
I showed up a couple of hours later and ran 600-800 pages.
Not a sound or thump. Copies looked clean.
Two days later the streaks show up. Traced it back to the transfer belt
which was just installed a couple of weeks ago.
Pulled the belt took the top off the cleaning unit. Turned the gears by hand.
When I turned the gear that made the belt move I could see the small augar
gears turning.
When I turned the gear that turns the brush. The brush turned opposite of the rotation of the belt, looks normal.
The shinny toner transport roller turned in the direction to pull the toner away. Turn that gear the other direction,
it turns may be a half turn then stops. Not sure if that is normal??
Look inside at the gears that drive that and found a pile of toner under it and cleaned it out. Turn that gear and it turns with resistance
I believe due to the gears behind the mech plate. Turn it hard and hold on to it and I can feel gear teeth skipping over gear teeth.
Put the transfer belt back in and the screech returns. I found the problems.
How much trouble am I getting into by digging through the back to find those gears?? Never had to do this before so I thought I'd ask.
