I am not looking for help here. I just had to share this with you folks. A tech showed up to a call on a C454e for "dark prints today". Prints his halftones out and the Cyan one is black LOL....after a few seconds he checks and finds they managed to crank that black toner hard enough to make it fit into the cyan slot. No codes, no errors, just "dark prints" lol

I had an enduser do that on a Copystar C4035e. They were out of magenta toner, but had lots of cyan?? And it just won't run when it says Add Toner. All you have to do is push a lot harder.

And you get really cool purple colored images. =^..^=

I've had this on a c454e too.

you dont even have to change the dev unit. Vac the hopper, add the new cyan toner and run 100x solid A3 cyan test prints. You will see it get almost perfect by the 50th sheet and is perfect by the 100th.

Good way to bill the customer for dumbassery either way

I had this on a C360 cyan toner in the black, was told black was blue and when I printed a configuration page it was pure cyan. swapped back to black and told them if will change back :)

Had the same but cyan in black c224e. Did what EarthKmTech did.

The nip on the cartridge can be easily knocked of when the toner shutter is a 1mm out of position (probably during transport) had it few times. Then it won't go in and they either try harder and break the nip and shutter or have a second thought and swap with other colour. Fun.

Byting on bits.

One plus from this at least with the older machines is it was dead easy to change a cheap black IU into a colour one :)

C350?

I remember the black IU on the c450 was slightly different with a toner filter or something. Been many years since I've seen one now I cant remember.

Cant remember if c350 was one but c252 c253 range used the same IU with minor differences to stop you putting them in the wrong colour which is easy removed or changed, the chip and the toner colour. Over the years I've had lots of these machines but never bought a colour IU :)

Good to know since I own a c253 as a home machine, support is discontinued for them now here so i can only get consumables that pop up on eBay!

One of these days I'll have to get something newer, I was offered a c652 with fs-526 with intergalactic meter count but dont really want such a monstrosity at home.

C652 is a good machine but perhaps a bit off over kill for a home machine :)
I'd run the c253 to death as the only real problem I've had is the toner blockage, when that happens its strip for parts and get rid.

For educational purposes I'll be installing 2.5" ide to mSata adapter with 64GB mSata SSD for anyone interested in a cheap fix for obsolete ide hdd failures.

I've backed up all 50GB in my user box which took over night and will restore it once installed. I will make a new post for anyone interested.

I did essentially the same as EarthKMTech. In Publisher I created a full page 75% fill magenta original. The first 75 prints brought it pretty close to magenta again. 150 more pages made it perfect, and with a calibration looked as good as when it was PMed. =^..^=

That should not be possible. The chips on the toners are coded to be color-specific. Meaning you should immediately get an EEPROM error (there is one for each color). I'm not saying it didn't happen, but I do not understand how...

It's all too possible, the reset boards on the toners don't prevent incorrect insertion anymore that is the sole responsibility of the cap fins now.

I've also taken incorrect version black toners in an emergency and swapped the cap over from from the declared and stopped empty to the full bottle, fitted to a C554e and it still reset the life counter with the original reset board from the empty toner still attached.

I think the main purpose is to prevent the situation like in the c360 series where you have a never ending toner low warning if someone changes the cartridge part way through life in error.

Exactly. Its just a stupid fuse this great chip :)
We have machines now with toner near empty OFF, as this was happening too often when toner was changed prematurely.

That's interesting--especially the caps portion.
For the record, I meant to put an escape clause in my comment of "at least for older models" because I have very little experience bh4 series.

You mentioned the c360s and a persistent low toner message. The chip certainly has a part to play, but doesnt the hopper dictate when the toner is low?

I accidentally swapped K and M dev units on a c7000 once. Couldn't figure out why my test patterns were so weird.....

It is possible to do the same with the bizhub c227, the customer put black toner in the magenta slot ... as he said, it offered little resistance, but it came in and stayed working, but now burgundy instead of magenta
