I don't work on shredders, except when the wife jams it up at home.
My question is there a difference in shredder oils and other types of lubes, like the old standby 3 in 1 oil or lightweight machine oil, or even light weight motor oil.
Will no shredder oil cause harm to the shredder?

Thanks

Shredder oil is a higher viscosity to allow it to stick to the blades. Lighter oil can be used but will need to be used more often.

Funny story, actually had a customer who figured any oil would work. Reason being was our manager said any oil but he meant any shredder oil. So they poured olive oil (I'm not kidding) all into the blades. I went there to service it and it was so disgusting and wet everywhere. I tilted machine and it literally was pouring out they put so much in.

Probably a fairly heavy weight silicone oil should do the job!...just spread a thin coat on a piece of paper and send it through!!!
