Jams intermittently J7220. It goes something like this:

When corner stapling letter, small sets (4 or less) the paper enters the stapling tray and is stapled. The eject belt taps the trail edge then comes around to eject the stack, but stops under the stapling tray. The set is never ejected. Another set stacks in on top of the first. The machine goes into a J7220. The second set is not stapled. No jams in the printer. One page remains at FS5 just entering the stapling tray at the top.

It never happens on larger sets (maybe giving the eject motor M18 some rest time? It never rests on the smaller sets). It may do 400 small sets without a jam. I noticed that the regulating plates may be gripping the set too tightly, buckling up the center of the set. That does not explain why the eject belt does not complete it's circuit though.

The section that feeds the stapling tray was a bit banged up due to the impatience of my enduser at removing jams from that area, but nothing that could not be re-formed back to where it belongs.

I've cleaned the reflective sensors in the stapling tray and in the main tray exit, like the code indicates. but again I don't see how that will help the eject belt drive. I've actually seen it jam twice up close.

The eject belt is intact with it's "foot" firmly attached (I've replaced a few of those), and it's in time, properly ejecting hundreds of sets, just not all of them.

I've considered two things:
1) confirming the registration plate adjustment for paper width,
2) replacing M18. The thing is, it's a beefy pulse motor and I doubt that it's failing.

The machine is at 8M, about 2.5M of those stapled, and has had all its recommended maintenance.
What am I missing? =^..^=

I had a similar jam code but it happened on FS-612 connected on to a Bizhub C1060. I fixed the fault / jam code by adjusting the By-pass Gate Solenoid ( SD5 ) on the finisher. Try adjusting the By-pass Gate Solenoid ( SD5 ) on the finisher.

The only bypass gate solenoid that I can find is in the PB-503, and I don't have one of those.

So the plan at this moment is to order M18 and the FNS Relay Harness /14. For now, that is. =^..^=

Update
I don't know if this is pertinent, but I think so:

36582

I did a little exploratory surgery today on that stacker tray. I found the front regulating plate had detached itself from the timing belt. Interestingly, when you drive the regulating plate motor manually, there is still enough friction against the back of the belt for it to continue to move like it should. Only when I grasped the front regulation plate and moved it, did I notice that it wasn't engaged with the rear plate or the drive.

36583

Here's how it looks now. Naturally it ran 300 stapled sets without a hitch. We'll see what happens when the enduser runs 3000 stapled sets.

You may have fixed it. I would be inclined to think if it was the motor stopping
it would feel kinda warm to the touch.

ok im having almost the same problem, except the last of what im printing. Before the jam 7220 is redirected, to the sub tray. So out of a 9 page packet, it goes one duplexed page in the staple unit. 3 pages also duplexed 3 simplexed and 2 blank all redirected to the sub tray ive changed the board and the motor that drives the exit gate no change any suggestions

I'm not real familiar with this finisher, but it sounds like a sensor problem. One page goes into the stapling tray and the rest redirected. May be a sensor is dirty
and it does not see the change and redirects to the other tray.
Or may be it is slow to enter the stapling tray? Are there any one ways in this part of the machine?
Does it do it every time or just once in a while?

I remember having this on a 951 finisher and it turned out to be the wiring loom from the stapler to the frame. They break a wire or two where it flexes. This can give random jam codes and error codes.

Ok the only thing that really throws me is I have to tell the
Machine to exit useing the sub tray so when it redirects
On it's own and that is not a function of the machine and it happens more frequent after it been running awhile

I have had these that the power wire of the wiring harness to the staple head break. That causes a jam.

Blackcat, did repairing the regulator fix your problem?

Yes, the timing belt attachment was the issue. =^..^=
