Hello everyone,

So my Bizhub C284 is having phantom paper jams. The machine reports that there's a paper jam and gives instructions to open up the door and unjam the paper that's in there, but there's no paper in there and all you need to do is open the door and close it and the error goes away. This seems like it's some type of sensor or something going off in error. Any suggestions ? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
PP

A jam code would be helpful. =^..^=

I'll have to wait until the next jam I guess, unless you can direct me to a place where the jam code is stored in a log or something? I'm going to look around the web UI to see if there's a record of these ghost paper jams. Thanks for the reply.

Will keep this in mind as I troubleshoot this issue. Thanks for the suggestion.

Error
jam code 72-21

Root Cause
FS-533/FS-534, jam code 72-21.

Workaround/Fix
CAUSE: Possibly a failed sensor, motor or Finsher Control Board (FSCB). Additionally, firmware may require updating.

SOLUTION: Before troubleshooting any components, ensure that any firmware requiring an update is installed (latest version).

1. Check Paper surface detect sensor/1 (PS102) at FSCB CN102 and replace if necessary. (p/n A2YUPPT800) 2. Verify Paper exit motor (M102) operation at FSCB CN109 and replace if necessary. (p/n A2YUPPW400) 3. If jamming still occurs, check if CP102 is OPEN on the FSCB. If so, replace the board (p/n A2YUPPH901).

Yeah, I've found this information in an online manual. How do I get access to the PS102 sensor. I can see the location according to this document:
ftp://64.83.217.34/CUSTOMER%20HELP%20FILES/KonicaMinolta/Error%20Codes/COPY/Jam%20Codes.pdf

But it's not apparent once I open the door. How would you get access to that sensor?

Thanks

You're on a c284? That manual looks like it's for the 8 series. If you have access to firmware I would try updating that. Do you know which finisher you have?

Yeah, I'm dealing with a c284 but everything looks fairly similar. I don't have access to any firmware. I'm not sure which finisher I have. Can I find which finisher I have in the Web UI?

Thanks

You could look at the little chrome tag on the finisher. The FS-534 is the stand alone finisher. The FS-533 is the internal finisher.

If it's a 534 there are issues with the regulating plates and eject arms:
FS-534 alignment plate wearing. (http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/konica-minolta/104455-fs-534-alignment-plate-wearing.html)

If its a FS-533 you might be seeing this:
FS-533 "Remove paper from finisher tray" (http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/konica-minolta/103342-fs-533-remove-paper-finisher-tray.html)

If it fits entirely inside the cavity it is an FS-533. If it sits on the floor it is an FS-534.

So, I definitely have the 534 but I want to clean off the sensor before checking on the alignment plate wearing that you linked to. Do you know if the sensor is exposed when I open the door of the finisher or is it near the paper tray? Thanks for all your help on this BTW, I'm learning a lot.

I just realized that maybe I should take off the entire FS-534 finisher since there is no Saddle stitcher or punch kit and what ever is supposed to be in the space below it there's just a big metal plate, lol.

This is what you want to check:
FS-533 "Remove paper from finisher tray" (http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/konica-minolta/103342-fs-533-remove-paper-finisher-tray.html)

It's not necessary to disassemble the finisher, but you must flex the bottom plate to get the "weight" back in position. Read the attached post carefully. =^..^=

Do I even need the finisher if it doesn't have the stitcher or punch kit, I just have a thin metal plate where there appears to be stuff in any diagrams that I see. I really just want to take the whole thing off since I don't think we're really using it anymore if ever. Can you point me to an uninstall guide of some kind? I can see the brackets and stuff that are used to attach the finisher (F-534) but I just want to be sure that I do things correctly. Also, I just want to add that we had a service person here already to attempt to fix this issue and I guess that person didn't do anything, we don't have the caliber of copier pro's that are on this forum in our area :(
