Hi all,

I have a customer that has broken the LAN socket on their 3051, a shelf fell on the cable & bent the internal pins, now it won’t connect to network etc.

Looks like the LAN port is soldered on, so I’m looking at swapping the complete controller PWB, can I pull one from a donor machine? If so will I need to back up the old machine first somehow?

I would say yes it is possible i have done several Ricoh's over the years
i managed to buy a new nic socket off ebay
it was a bit of a pain to get the old one off but it worked like a dream
on the Ricoh i didnt need to back anything up
Electroversal was a company in Luton who used to do board repairs at a good price
not sure if they are still doing it i think they may have been taken over

oops in my enthusiasm i didn't read your post fully thought you said you wanted to swap the nic lol

Yes, you should not have any issues swapping boards as long as you make ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that you (carefully) pull the EEPROM off of the damaged board and move it to the board that you intend to use in the machine. If you don't move the EEPROM you run a good chance of creating a 3051ci boat anchor.

It should be a straight forward direct swap. Back up everything to a USP drive with maintenance mode U917 and put it in the new board after swap.

Thank for the info appreciate the help.

I’ve read the service manual & will ensure I sawp over the roms etc.

I will also back up as sugested with U917 is it the same U code to back up to the new board?

The machine is on PaperCut is that going to cause me headaches or is that untouched on the HDD?

Yup, board swap is the only way to fix this. (except for some mcgyvering)

Swap the eeprom and the main pwb and it should work.
Take back ups of everything when in doubt and print every report you can.
(and follow the service manual steps ;) )
