View Full Version : How to supress PM Part messages at end unser computers

Hey ho,

is there a reliable way to avoid pop ups within newer MacOS/Windows enviroments like "low toner" or "drum unit replace".
I think this is pretty lame for service contracts because most customers becomes annoyed and replace the toner if they get these messages and dispose the remaining "low toner" wich is usually somewhat <20%. Of course we have our service contract MFPs adjusted with no life stop and pm display etc. but that won't affect the messages at the end user computer.

Somebody told me that deactivating SNMP protocol inside the MFP will supress these messages (computer won't receive these informations) but I had some side effects (data administrator tool won't work and what about the customers I do manage with fleet management / fleet management collection engines probably require these protocols).

Have you guys digged into this topics, would be nice to hear some thoughts.

For the most part, it's a printer driver issue. It's not AS bad on Windows machines, and turning off SNMP helps... but you can't do much of anything about it on a Mac. Apple is such a "Closed Ship" about their operating system, the copier manufacturers get it the same day as end users do. This is why there's a 30-90 day lag between a Mac OS release, and new print drivers being published.

I've got a couple of customers that are 100% Mac in their offices. I just tell them they can ignore the messages... it's an Apple/Konica communication issue.

We've already had messages like: "Preventative Maintenance Required" pop up on Macs at 120K, even with the PM lights suppressed and the actual maintenance done. It just happens at 120K, maybe other times too. =^..^=

That's happening with all models, e.g. Cxx0, Cxx4, Cxx8 series... It's also a "general" topic that affects probably all brands.

I know about dip switches for supressing the messages on the display of the MFPs but that won't affect/avoid thosemessages on my customers computer/mac.

I do (well,try...) it the same way but some customers ar very demanding so it's not unusual that I'm forced to send out a tech to reset or replace stuff. These are total "no need" calls for MFPs that have basicly no issues and not cool if you're short on manpower... We noticed that more and more toners are replaced before end condition since I do some monitoring and set up alert rules for "unusual toner replacements" in my fleet managed pool, so i can contact the customers. Whatsoever, 80% of my MFPs are running without fleet management so you probably can imagine how much remaining toner is hitting the trash bin undetected. I think it's not unrealistic to say that in average the toner loss might be within 5-10%, doesn't look like a big deal but that might be a higher 4 or low 5 digit $/€/.. sum additional costs for supplying if you're a mid size dealer.

The more you dig into this, the more it becomes annoying.

Soft switch 227 to HEX 80 will disable messages to Fiery, PSWC, LCD, switch 230 to HEX 08 will disable messages to PSES, MIB and a few others, IOS is not specifically mentioned, but worth a try. Emujo

That's very interesting topic. Disabling SNMP is not good option as we will loose Print Fleet and other tools which need device information. I may be interested also in your findings about dip switch effects.
