Hi guys, I have recently experienced an issue with my KM 227. When it prints, there is a cloud of blue everywhere. The printer is no longer with KM service agreement thus purchase items myself. The toner that was being used for a few months was some third party Amazon brand however recently returned back to original.

Some stuff I have already done is try cleaning the drums using the cleaning stick attached to front cover, tried emptying the waste toner (messy job but thought I would try this to see if it eliminates the issue) however nothing has made a difference. I was certain it had something to do with the drum however since they are not removable on the 227 Im not sure what it can be.

Please see attached image. I have obscured a few bits on the document as it is private and confidential.

BS there is not ONE machine made where the drums ( page driven part ) CANNOT be removed.

from the looks of it .. you have either a bad dev units or drum

what are the page counts on the parts in the unit...
have parts been replaced on time and adjustments done?
have you cleaned the machine?
how did you use the cleaner rod?

We’ve been fighting this issue too. Theres a lot of poor quality 3rd party toner out there!
Even after fitting original it takes a while to get “flushed out”

Hi Phil thank you very much for the response.

Firstly when I meant the drum cannot be removed I should have been more clear in that Konica seems to have made sure they are not removed by an end user other it is only a couple philips screws and smal wiring harness that need undoing. When I did a little reading on the printer albeit not extensive I got the impression that on the 227 KM decided the drums need not be removed as often as they did on the previous models such as the c224e.

Im not sure what the page count per individual parts however the machine has a combined count of 340,000 and according to my brother were partially or completely replaced around 6 months ago. When I mean partially as in not the full set. Furthermore, the Developing Unit and Drum are showing as 43% and 49% respectively whilst the 3 imaging units are showing as 0%

until 5 months ago parts were only ever replaced by KM engineers unless they were consumable units. We stopped our service agreement as they started dragging their feet when we called to replenish toner for example. Certain cases irrespective of our page count they would still be reluctant to send supplies and it would take a week long argument to get what we require.

With regards to cleaning, im assuming you mean general clean of the physical unit. Yes we often clean all our printer.

The cleaning rod is used via channels below the drum/imaging units. Back and forth movement around 10 times per channel/slot.

2 imaging units at 0% and you dont think that could be an issue?

I know it sounds pathetic on my part :p however the toner is collectively showing as 0 yet there is genuine toner in there so I was assuming the figures were not to go by.

Next question, where could I purchase imaging units from and are these just drums?

Image units are the drum & dev units in one.

Hey you might want to try calling Ripley's Believe It or Not only because the bizhub 227 is a black-and-white machine so if you have blue toner spreading all over the place that's the most unique Copier on the face of the planet

My first and last answer on this end user topic.
Run atleast 100-150 blue full coverage pages. Best case issue solved.
If not you may try this with all colors, next change consumables due etc.
Last or maybe first, call tech, pay for the mess you made.

Hello guys. Am I the only one who noticed the blue stripe near the top of the sample?
Time to swap/change the Cian drum/imaging unit. (done technical course years ago and decided that this dog is a no go, so I can't remember if they have separate drum & developing units or the old style imaging units).

The drums and dev are not separate, only the black one is...the clue is in "IU" which is a complete image unit, drum & dev combined

The "cleaning stick attached to the front cover" is actually for cleaning the printheads and will have no effect on the drums/image units, which this machine takes.

Hi, I think there's a bit of confusion here in explaining the problem.

First of all this is a bizhu C227. To remove the UI it is necessary to remove the waste toner box, open the right door of the printer and lower the lever of the UI.

Since the original toner was not used, there may be leftovers here. As already suggested, you should do 100-150 prints to try to solve. If you're lucky, you'll have to do less.
