I haven't had those particular hoppers apart, but the 364e hoppers were well know for packing toner into the bushings, so the hopper mechanics would just vibrate, never turning. If it's the same there is a white bushing on the front of each hopper that can be easily removed, then vacuumed out or picking out the chunks. =^..^=

I had a c458 today doing this on black.

It turned out to be the drum.

I could see a mist of toner on the drum surface which I figured was enough to use up what the hopper was putting in.

On replacing the drum it rapidly toned up to about 7% and held there afterwards.

The only thing that bothers me was the fact that the drum was replaced only two days ago so was obviously faulty from new....

There are toner cartridge motor and toner supply motor, which one you replaced?
Did you check by turning gears manually that developing roller is turning?

it the one in the back of the machine it has all 4 toner bottle motors together as one unit

Now you have black toner in hopper but it's driven by another motor-toner supply motor, so your toner is only moving half way towards Developer unit.

okay that makes sense

What's the TCR ratio for black?
If it's under 5.5% and could not raise it by manual TCR toner add check toner hopper.
Does C-2557 appear?
Any strange sound during toner add?

Regarding motors.....
There are 4 toner bottles on the back, and also 3 more motors for color hoppers. If your black toner bottle is turning there is no need to replace motors on the back.

Motor for black hopper is in front (on hopper itself).
Remove all the drums and developers, output tray, front door and cover, then hopper 4 screws, 2 connectors on left, and 1 on right.
You can try to turn gears of black hopper manually and check if it's turning all the way. (when you look at gears it's anti-clockwise direction)

At last you can check white bushing in front and if there's toner inside it. If so replace it with modified one (with metal bearing inside) This was problem with 4 series.

Good luck

Okay i cleaned out the toner path, and the motor in front did turn all the way but in the second go around, the front moror is not rorating and making a straining noise
Is the motor fualty? Or is the gear cluster binding? It did bind up when i turned it manually, but not after i vacked out all the piled up toner in the hopper

Motor should be OK, it's (usually) stuck gears that prevent motor to turn them and thus making noise.
On high meter counter, you should remove front white bushing, and rear bushing; gears and shaft also.
Vac out and assemble. Pay attention that bushings should be put in place to the end so the gears can be in correct position. If front white bushin has toner inside - replace.

I had on brand new machine a foreign particle stuck between the gears, motor making noises, code c2557.
After removing, it's working like a charm.

A5C1RA0000 bushing

If there's no toner inside it, it's not the cause of the problem.
