Customer purchased drum unit and starter but not dv unit. Installed items and copier worked fine for a few months but then got the 2557 code.
Replaced the drum unit and dv unit and starter as a set and ran F8. Copier worked fine for a couple of days, then coded c2557 again.
Adjusted ATDC gain from 172 to 182 and machine started working again. Printed over a ream of paper with no issues.
Then checked
ATDC set 182
ATDC Current 7.5%
Vg Current -640v
Vb Current -540v

If code returns maybe it’s an issue with the machine not adding enough toner. No mylar blocking toner hole in hopper an everthing looks lined up correctly. At least it’s working for now and got through an entire ream. Comments appreciated.

ATDC too high . try step by step adjust drop to 160 . need take time to adjust and print more copies

Toner is not getting into developer I have seen this issue several times years ago working on this series you need to remove toner hopper unit from belly of copier couple of hidden screws accessed from back of machine vacuum out sub hopper clean or replace sensor or magnet switch if still available. Its a big job to get to it . May need to replace the developer powder again to recover from code be sure toner bottle is full it will take time to refill hopper.

Sounds like the right advice............I suspected this was a toner supply issue. Thanks to all for the replies.

did you reset the drum and dev counts before you ran f8? also at this age the foam on the toner solinoids are gummy.never seen a sub hopper problem in all my years. but can happen

My guess is that it's the stupid sponge KM put on the solenoids in the toner hopper add assy. The sponge on each of the 2 solenoids will fail and all that's left is the sticky adhesive, causing the machine to add toner all the time, which is why increasing the ATDC value temporarily fixes it. Remove the toner hopper/bottle drive assy and clean off the sponges of each solenoid. Pro tip- put some mylar, 2 or 3 layers thick on where the sponges were, otherwise the solenoid flapper will magnetically stick to the solenoid frame. Ask me how I know. ;) Been fixing 350 series and later like this for many years.

I've got a BH 222 with same error few days ago. made same part changes: developer+image unit (all new); F8 ok, reset counters ok. After a few days 2557 error. Whith srvctec (https://www.copytechnet.com/forums/members/srvctec.html) advice i've start the work. Guess what: solenoid was glued. And stays glued when i take out the subhopper assy and put it on table. I've made a photo whith that. After remade the solenoids, the machine works just fine. By the way, i've used a piece of heat shrink tube instead of pieces of mylar.

Id expect this in a machine of this age but not on later models.
