Hi guys,
We have a C3110 at work wich suddenly popped up this 6790 error code wich as far as we researched could be something related to the scanner, ADF, firmware or MFP board. We followed the basic procedures and checked the connectors on the board, they were all clear then we dissasembled the scanner unit, cleand the glass, checked the belt, all seem ok. The error pops up shortly after booting, you can actually manage to get in the menus before it appears.

Any ideeas on what should we check\replace?

Do you think a firmware update\refresh might help? If yes, where do I download ones, It doesn't seem to be easily available.

I haven't found a good definition for the "AFE" (advanced front end optics?), but it reads like an optical shading adjustment failure after three tries.

If re-seating connectors and cleaning optics doesn't help, you'll probably end up changing the entire scanner assembly. Like many of these small tabletop devices the scanner is an assembly with no individual parts available. =^..^=

Any ideea where can I get a service manual and\or a parts catalogue? I'm familiar with Brother devices, not so much with Bizhubs.

First is the scanner lamp, after the white board under the small windows where measure the white balance.

Dissasembled the scanner unit.
Everything looks clean but I did extra-cleaned the surfaces with IPA anyways.

Found a replacement flex cable, tried with that but no change.

I'm attaching some pictures.

What I did noticed is that it takes a while before the error appears, a over 10 seconds and meanwhile the scanner lamp is positioned under the small black\white strip and flashes 2 - 3 times with several seconds in between the flashes.

Time to throw away that machine and upgrade to new i series machines.
Much better if A3 model.

Change the white board under the small windows, when settings the white balance it can't set because the whit is not really white.
But when change the white board, it must be heatproof because the lamp is always light it.

By white board you mean that adhesive strip? Indeed that looks a bit dulled and yellowish. Not the white plastic piece that also has those 3 black strips right?

Looked a bit closer today and I believe the white board/strip is actually ok, it's under the glass and looks white, no discoloration at all. That yellowish adhesive strip I believe is only for securing the glass and provide a smooth patch for the scanner sensor to glide.

That white strip looks ok. So like BC said look for a CIS or scanner section.

Hi, I had a problem with a ground connector that was not properly inserted. Hard to see until you take it all apart.
When the printer turns on, check the white bar. One cause could be the presence of too much light but I doubt.
Be careful when changing the unit. These machines are very delicate.

Good luck

Ok so I think I can safely declare this machine dead or at least too expensive to fix.

So far I:
- Cleaned the glass on both sides
- Cleaned the LED array
- Cleaned all elements in the scanner unit
- Checked all connectors, cables, grounds
- Checked and even replaced the flex band
- Checked the belt
- Checked the white strip, it's ok
- Updated firmware to last version

Called locally to see if any parts available, scanner unit and\or mainboard but unfortunately not available.

Had this in a C3350, luckily I had a scrap machine, swapped over the complete scanner

If you have another C3110 available you can test the scanner unit.

Ok, I managed to order a new CIS assembly unit. Will wait until it arrives and see what happens.
