Hello,

New to these forums, not a "tech" but know enough be dangerous...

I've got a Konica Minolta BizHub C458 that used to have account tracking on it - had to disable that for a time and am now "turning it back on".

Previously, the account track worked where you would go to print from a program, would bring up the "preferences", you would have to choose the "basic" tab, then click the "account verify / account track" button, which would bring up another window where the user would type in their password, click verify, and then go on printing. The user only had to do this ONCE per day generally. This is where my issue lies - I can't figure out how to allow the user to only have to verify ONCE. Now, users have to verify for EACH print job.

Can anyone please help!?

Thanks in advance!

Printer properties/settings tab/User Authentication Settings/ Verify authentication before printing. If checked it will check every time. E

So in the Authentication settings under printer properties, NOTHING is checked...should the "verify authentication settings before printing" be checked? I thought it would be checked/turned on, but it's not...

Jip but will ask you to enter authentication info every time you print.

Hmm...

Trying to only get ONE authentication per day/user though...

then lock it in under Advanced-Printing defaults and apply.
will not ask at all but any print under that ID will be "billed"

If each PC has a dedicated user, why not just enter the password right into the driver defaults so it never asks? Whomever uses that PC gets billed.

Just about every PC has a dedicated user...how do I go about doing that?

And by "billed" I assume you mean it counts the print for account tracking.

I've been changing these settings via "pagescope web connection" not sure if that makes a huge difference or not.

Sorry, I don't know the exact keystrokes off the top of my head. I don't get to do it often enough. Ok, I'll try:

On each PC: Start > search "Devices and Printers" > select print driver > Print Queue > Printer > Properties > Preferences > Basic > Authentication/Account Track > ... I think you can figure it out from here.

=^..^=

Yes, this is how I've had people verify for printing - the issue is they have to do it EVERY time they want to print - I'm looking for a way for them to do it once per logon/day/whatever per user. 44339
If you look at the screen shot - it kind of illustrates it. I want users to only have to enter that password once. I KNOW this is possible, because that's how it was set up before I turned off the account track setting.

Super frustrating. I feel like i don't have enough knowledge to properly illustrate my problem...probably why I'm not IT. lol, ugh.

Yeah, all of those options are left "unchecked"/"not marked".

So those are all questions I was nervous about as I'm not exactly sure on the answers...

I don't know what the universal driver is. >.<

Driver name: KONICA MINOLTA C658SeriesPCL
Driver Type: Type 3 - User Mode
Driver version: 10.1.1.0

That's what I've got on the windows printer test page I did. Then there's a number of additional print driver files listed, about 20 of them.

As far as environment, I've no idea. Sorry I'm not much help, this is probably my issue to begin with! lol.

I'm guessing that these drivers are on a server somewhere and endusers settings are not saved at log-off. That's one step past my experience/expertise. One of the IT guys will have to take it from here. =^..^=

I think you may be right about endusers' settings not saved at log-off, due to them having to re-enter their account password the next day.

Maybe this is for the IT guys after all. I was just hoping to correct my mistake without having to bother him/them. lol.

Thanks though!

I wonder if you are entering the authentication info while the documnet (PDF, Doc, xlsx ect) is opened. It looks like your driver settings are correct.. Be sure you are setting these "preferances" from control panel/devices and printers/print preferances. As a test, what happens to the other preferances you may set (2 sided, Auto color ect) do they revert back to the original settings as well? E

So I just did a test where I used my account verify number, set to single side print, color. When I try the second time, I went in and saw that the settings I had changed reverted back to two-sided print, auto color, etc.

I have been setting the preferences from the control panel/devices. I have also tried to set them from within programs as well, but nothing sticks.

Try one more local copy of the driver..Be sure to install ...

1. Add local printer using TCP/IP or host name radio button selected
2. On the next screen do not use the Auto Detect choice, use TCP/IP device, and ensure Query printer is NOT checked.
3. Finish install and test if preferences will save

There seems to be an issue with the Auto Detect device type and Windows..

Maybe you can check in CE Mode does the HDD is set to "Installed"
I once have this issue where it set to "NOT Installed" and Account Tracking verification is failed.
