As I read many threads here that FW updates going wrong way or techs have to use twisted workarounds to update the FW, fellow techs be aware of information below:

Windows formatting may prevent USB thumb drive from being read correctly and will fail if used to flash firmware on 4,8 or i series MFPs
- Sometimes error messages dealing with Write Protection, or unreadable disk, etc may occur
- When inserted into the machines the firmware will simply not load, or not load properly

How to and program to format the USB thumb drive cleanly are to be found in KBA00053111

Basically don't use Windows to format thumb drive but other utilities, if needed use comand prompt to clean the thumb drive and reset the MBR.

Thanks for the heads up. I looked on dealer website and could not find that bulletin. Can you PM it to me or point me in right direction. K/M site is so weird to search stuff!

Thanks again

Use GUIFormat to format it in FAT32. If the USB drive doesn't work after this, you might need to get another USB drive.

We just started using rufus to format thumb drives since Windows is a no no. rufus is open source and works well with a portable version that doesn't need installing.
