Brother l5850 jamming in doc feeder

Have a brother 5850 that paper goes about 1/2 inch into doc feeder then jams. Getting jammed by plastic piece connected to bottom roller(double feed prevention) as it sticks up to far. I have never worked on brothers so wanted any advise I can get before tearing apart. Thanks

Generally speaking most if not all Brother DFs are not supposed to be disassembly. There aren't spare parts, just whole DF. I don't know this particular model but start with visual inspection if any parts are out of place, missing or broken. Next I would clean rollers etc. If it's jamming all the time same place, there's something physical obstruction of the paper path. If enduser removed jams whilst cover is closed they may flip back something.

there are feed rollers for most Bro ADF's not sure about this one. replacing an adf assm can be a PIA.
