Hello

I am in the market for a new to me printer and found a c284. Will this copier print double sided on 100lb card stock? I have a bizhub 283 that wont print on both sides of heavy cardstock. I have to send the paper through manually and that takes too much time and dont want to buy this machine if it is like that.

Thanks

Andy

Not sure if it will but if it allows you to select "thick" with 2 sided and it works I wouldn't run many. It will damage the fuser rollers running high volume.

Ok thanks for the reply. Would the c454 be a better choice?
Or other suggestions

Thanks

C454e has basically same fuser. Think you should be able to get the C654e or C754e off lease at a very good price. This has the different designed heavy duty fuser but would still be leery of running large volume. If a machine doesn't allow you to select "2nd side" with thick paper and you run it anyway it will destroy the fusers fast, no matter what machine. When thick paper is selected it slows the machine down and increases the temp.

Even production machines have trouble with 2 sided. I don't work on the production segment but remember a friend of mine at K/M told me they had a contract customer with a Bizhub C6500 only running 11x17 double sided. It was damaging the fusers every few months and they lost a lot of money until the contract was up and they did not renew. "the salesman told them it could do it with no problems!" Salesman, say or do anything to sell a machine. Put them right up there with car salesman.

If you are looking at buying used / off lease make sure to get lowest meter. Typically under 100k for machines are good. C654 up to 200k. Check consumables before buying!

You'll have to be more specific. There is no such media description as "Cardstock". Choose from Index, Points, Millimeter, Book, Bond, Bristol, Cover, Tag, or preferably: gsm (grams per square meter).

I hate sounding repetitive. =^..^=

I guess it would be 175-215 GSM
As far as cost of a C654 machine where would you suggest I look? I checked ebay but don't want to spend $5k.

Thanks for the advice!!!!

Let me be a little more specific

I print a lot of manuals that have front and back cover stock double sided All the sheets in the middle are also double sided but on 24 or 28 pound paper. Is it bad to print on both sides of the paper with 24 pound paper or is it bad because of being cover stock?

All machines have specs most machines can't auto duplex heavy card stock
also the thicker the paper the slower the machine will run in order to fuse the toner onto the paper.

Temp of the fuser does not change but the motor speed does.

With 5K% $ you buy a new Bizhub C360i printer + optional finisher.

For a used bizhub C284e/C364e/C454e the price is between $600-800.
For a bizhub C654e/C754e even 1000 $ if in good condition.

I have some customers who put this paper in the main tray, without using bypass. However, this could cause some jam if not set correctly.

Hello,

Paper that thick is only meant to be printed from the bypass tray of the Konica Minoltas 4xx, 5xx, 6xx machines. Ex: C451, C454(e), C458, C558, C658, C659, etc. The smaller machines are not really meant to handle it and will most likely give you more problems, or just break, than actually print on that thickness. If you load that thick paper in the normal trays and not the side bypass tray it will also most likely jam during the first or second page from experience.

On the C284E, C554e, & C754e the machine specs say that you can duplex up to Thick3 <256gsm, but I don't think I'd count on that for the C284e or the C554e. I should think that your 215gsm media would duplex alright on the C754e.

I hope that you're not going to try to run all this heavy paper through the booklet maker. There are very specific limitations on how many pages and of what weight that can be fed through the booklet maker. We see this all the time: Somebody buys a 25cpm office copier and expects it to become some sort of production print device.
