Hello,
I bought a new photocopier Konica c308 but i have some toner cartridge of my old Konica c284e (TN321x) to reuse.
Probably the toner container is not compatible with the new c308, I don't know.
Anyway I ask if it is possible to refill the cartridges of c308 (CYMK) with the old toners of c284.
Thank you
Francy

Let me be the first to say that this is a really really bad idea. If yo decide to do this, remember that I advised against it.

The c308 uses a different charge assembly on the drums than the c284 so I wouldn't recommend doing this, you may end up with at best a dev & drum unit failure or at worst a broken main drive unit.

As others have said not a good idea, however I have done this on a number of occasions without any issues (none)

When I was in the toner cartridge rebuilding business, I found that HP used the same toner for about 10 different cartridges. We would order this toner in bulk and it saved us a lot of money compared to ordering the individual bottles that had the correct grams. The only problem is we had to weigh out the correct grams which was a pain in the ass.

With all that being said...you have no idea if this is the case in your situation. You're playing Russian Roulette. I wouldn't chance it. No way.

I’ve already taken this chance multiple times as I said with no issues.

As a test just try one colour maybe on an old/scrap model first, worst case you’ll only kill one dev unit.

Hey, as long as he understands the risk involved, I've got no problem with it. Go for it.

Works no problem. Same toner...

If the machine replenish developer you will see a port from the devtank going into the waste box.
In that case for K TN216/319 TN321/512 TN514 TN613/712 all the same.
Take a teaspoon of developer from DV512 and TN414 and that will work just fine too but don't really recommend that for color machines, b/w no problem.
If you use non developer containing toner like TN414 expect the devtanks to fail before 300K...

The color CMY you can F*$#%up badly if you put developer containing toner in a non replenishing machine like a C287 or even a C360.

For the C287 TN216/319CMY or even TN613CMY works just fine.

Some KM toner works great on Xerox color....

All at own risk been doing this for some time.

Been feeding my 951's katun TN414...

To answer yes it will work but...

I had a few C224e series that would keep depleting the developer, so rather than replace the dev unit each time at high cost so with nothing to loose I topped then up using old dev I tipped out from C552 image units, to my surprise it worked perfectly! I still use this method today using old C654/C764 image units.

I hear ya and I trust what you say. But you're a trained tech. I think this is an end user?

Ah yes if this was an end user with a 'new' C308 might not be worth the gamble.

Hey if OP is a end-user and screws up. Means money for a tech out there...

Agree sell you toner on the old interweb then buy the right stuff if you don't want to take risks.
Easy sell.

This is so bad BAD thread in many ways!
Just imagine next non contract machine you're working on has customer filled toners with whatever left on the shelves they think can put in. Sure some may pick out adequate cartridge...but how many?

Yeah, imagine being callrd out on a service call and they have the right cart installed but you have no idea they refilled it with toner from a different model. You'd be chasing your tail for a while. lol

That was what i meant. Easy to screw even experienced techs not to mention novice.

Don't do this blindly i check the material safety information sheets on the toners.
Contains all the CAS numbers and quantity in the mix.

Will be supersized to find that they are identical between models.

Here is a sample of one.
MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET Page:1/6 MSDS No.:MFP-0322 ...

had that more than once.
last one was 2 years ago they had an old cf3102 with black issues like mad. through some investigative work i saw a xerox toner box in the trash under a bunch of other paper. turned out they ran out of black but had a few boxes of xerox black likely from an analog machine. ruined the IU and fuser. instant billable call.

Thank you for your experience. Even if don't like recycling expansive "old" toners, probably I will buy new cartridges. The new photocopier is too much "new" for this risk.
Anyway I cannot sell the old cartridges (for c284e) because are partially used.
Thanks againg

For the sake of not wasting it use it.
It will work just fine on your machine.

Not all copier toner are the same its quite a complicated topic.
Mixing toners mess up machines.

I must say I bought some 654 toners for my 454 in error. I did load them in by switching out the heads on the toner but I think it might of been ok because of the close nature of the machine. But to literally have to pour out from one to the next real risk to take. But if you're desperate give it a try. And let us know

We have done in some machines. Always check MSDS If they match.

See in this case it will work if its a color machine but no developer in the C654 toners so the developer will get depleted short of the yield.
The K toner is the same and will work no problem.

I had an issue with my black developer which kept wasting the developer. After getting help on here for fixing it I didn't have any more black. Wih only one printer really working at the time I resorted to taking a little bi of black developer toner for Xerox a new box of course and putting it in the 454 till got the black toner sorted. In fact it was just last night I emptied the developer from the 454 and added back in the one from Konika.
I've found in these times Covid with limited shipping opportunities to the island I live and a lot of my options in the US not delivering as they should I've resorted to some creative ways to keep the machines working and fulfilling my duty well our duty to our clients.

No problems changing between 512 and 514. CMKY all contains developer.
Think here you only need to change the tops over.

In China, some people fill the toner of the high-speed model of the same brand into the toner cartridge of the low-speed model, for example, fill the toner of TN615 into the TN321。 I don’t sell toner, and I don’t know if the machine will work normally. Their theory seems to be "the toner of the high-speed models of the same brand can be compatible with the low-speed models", but not vice versa.
