Pro 951 C2206 and C2238

Been driving me nuts on this one machine.
Motor checks out the 2 sensors checks out. Mechanically the blade is free to move and as a habit I always leave it set in position 2. Will change the blade manually at around 500K. That blade switching patent is a service call waiting to happen.

Read the trouble shooting guide and as per that i changed the short harness between the cleaning unit and the cradle.
Its consistently intermittently. Will error out a bunch of times if not C2206 then C2238. Will fiddle with it and then it will be ok for weeks. Other wise it will happen once every other day. Changed the cleaning unit out twice now but with used parts with no history.

Thinking to change out the drum cradle and cleaning unit at once.

Any one know why it bombs out?

There are about 6 different connections between the cleaning unit and the printer control board. Each connection drops a little voltage. It really doesn't take much to cause these errors as a result. We have had great success correcting this issue by simply hitting all the connections with "Deoxit" contact treatment.

You must also re-index the cleaning blade gears to the right position before powering the machine back up as well.

Yes i remove the two screws holding the gear assy then let it drop back then reinstall it.
Tend to agree with you about the contacts.

We have a fleet of over 100, 951's here and have seen this particular problem more times than we can count. Deoxit was our saving grace.

Sure, you'll get past th the error code, but the blade will never flip at 500K.

I've seen those sensors get dirty, and the blade flip mechanism can get caked in toner making it hard to move. We've also seen a few bad PRCB boards cause this. In all cases I've been able to trick the machine into thinking that the blade flipped, and it finishes the PM cycle with no problem. =^..^=

I don't even bother with the automatic blade change any more. On a 951 i think its 375K and 1250 500K.
The drums can do anything from 1.2M past 2M depending on environment, the blades fail before the drum.
I just mark the blades properly and let it run in position 2 only. Blade can do 600K before the patches starts showing up on the copies.

Was there this morning and did the same old thing, set it proper but this time i washed the harness and connectors in WD40.
Must get some proper electrical spray first.

Did not come back yet. Now more sure its an electrical contact issue.


If you remove that linkage the blade will run against the drum with more pressure than normal i would think.
The error codes can still occur with this removed.

Will give that a go if nothing else solves the problem. Don't like the idea of the blade permanently running on the drum surface. But if it comes to that.
Still need to get proper water repelling electrical spray. Must get what i can locally, Ordering stuff from ZA takes forever.

After washing the connector and harness by submersing it in Q20(same as WD40 only better) the codes are gone for now.
Leading me to belief that its a fault on the wiring.
