Off to an international remote site for a couple months on monday with 100's of machines -

more than 70 c368 black toners are in stock and about 5 c458's - the replenishments may not get there before I do.

Has anyone done this with success with no damage to the machine?

I used to swap the bottle caps over on e-series 224 - c554e all with same dev unit versions without issue - dont care about persistant toner low warning, as long as it operates without damage - I dont care. Have not tried with 8 series since the dev units are different part numbers.

Yes the toner in the bottles is the same.

Actually you can even use 4 series toner.

After you have refilled the toner you can reset the low toner message using ENGINE SW 31,32,33,34.

Already do that stuff

This overseas location is a volcanic island with no red dirt so dustiness is not an issue.

nup, this requires 14 days isolation going there and 14 days coming back (paid to sit on my ass in a hotel watching netflix, very handsomly at that)

and bout a billion very serious documents i had to sign, going overseas is not an easy thing to do atm

In the AP, D3 region, the C458 and C308 toners are all blocked from going in the wrong machine by only 1 fin, the fin at the reset board. This is just cut off at the base then the toner slides in as normal, works perfectly and even resets the tonger life counter. Thanks for giving me the confidence to do this, at this site there ended up being 370 black C458 toners and 0 C308 toners. I am also using the hundreds of colour C308 toners in the C458's of which they have none. Till the replenishment order gets there anyway.

These toners have three/four hooks. With a screwdriver remove the hooks and change the cap. Voila, new toner.

yeah this is an old favourite i used to do with the various e series machines. I discovered on the D3 region bottles theres only 1 thin fin blocking the c308 and c458 toners being interchangeable. once thats cut off it goes in perfectly and works, the reset board is even compatible.

the cap swapping is a little messy sometimes.

Or if you are an end user any colour fits in any hole apparently!
