It doesn't start. Black point in the right upper edge. New firmware: GC3-X4
Issue with updating:
C-308: GC4-84 V. 2.1
C-308: G00-G3 V. 3.2

Thanks advanced for help!

Why in the world would you use special firmware that was written to address specific problems?
Base firmware works just fine.the latest version is g00-x4

Special firmware is not an arbitrary upgrade, the machine has to exhibit certain behaviors that are addressed with special firmware.

None of those are base and should never be used unless addressing that issue.

This is irrelevant, even using GC3-X4 he should still be able to update to this version!

Try to update leaving front door open. Also good idea from your countryman and fellow tech Bix is to put USB directly in port on right rear side of machine instead of panel.

Also, make sure the extension cable for the front port is plugged into the correct port in the back. I've seen some where it's plugged in where the fax unit should go.

Try a few other USB pen drives, no larger than 4GB, however larger ones do work.

Agreed on that point, I am more curious/concerned that different special versions that all fix different issues were attempted.
Hope he's holding the stop button and only has the FWXXXX## folder on the root.

Well he says he has the black dot in the top right corner so he must be holding down the stop key.

Try another USB Pen & a fresh copy of GC3-X4 firmware.

Only copy the FW0002 folder.

it just occurred to me, if someone zaps the SSD or replaced it the engine and type may still be FF
or not mentioning a swapped board etc..
this will cause firmware to fail every time.
the other thing is i have waited up to 15+ minutes for FW to boot into the choice screen.
i would still load base firmware first just to make sure the machine's MFPB isnt porked.
also never mentioned if it boots normal and what FW version is on there now.

im sure that thread cost him a couple redcards.

I am not familiar with Konica-Minolta but with Ricoh if you have anything other than the firmware you are wanting to update on your SD Card will cause it to take an excessive length of time to get to the Update screen. The processor has to read the entire device.

I will make some tests regarding this later. I have a drive with many different models FW on it will, try next time to left only one needed and measure time.

I bought this firmware - I didn't know that is special firmware.

I bought this machines and don't know what was before. I tested more machines and wrote the FW version here. And I'd testet not only on version.

One user asked about firms who deliver parts in Europe. One answered "Katun". I don't know that isn't allowed to send addresses from other firms. I only buy my parts there - nothing else.

I tried both: a new stick and leaving front door open: No issue!

You are right, I didn't test the correct plug in. But after dot in the edge, it seems to be correct.

I tried a new stick with success. Before two sticks with different firmware didn't function.

Now I've had success with G00-W4 on two of these machines. I'll later test the other usb pens again to find the mistake.

I had issue changing MFP board in a C308 the other day when trying to load firmware. Just sat on 2 shark vins and black dot for over 10 mins. Older USB stick worked though. It's crazy modern copier is still so fussy about USB memory

Many new memory sticks and SD cards have a bunch of bloatware crap on them from the manufacturer. You might want to reformat them using a utility like MiniTool.

That is why for years Ricoh has recommended the Panasonic SD card format utility. Cards formatted with Windows file explorer often did not work. Also with utilities like MiniTool you can change the partition size. If you have an older model that will only work with 2GB and smaller SD cards, and not all 2GB cards, you can create a 1GB partition on a 16GB or larger SD card. 1GB card are expensive, if you can find them.

Yes slimslob is right Konica also recommended not using Windows but other free tools to format USB stick.

Yes, but format with FAT32. Formatting with NTFS will not let them work, al least with the older machines like a BH-423 I just noticed.

I format ALL my USB pens using the Windows format tool. Never once had an issue after.

First click 'restore device defaults, check the quick format is ticked & default allocation size is selected, next click format, as simple as that.

PROBLEM:
1. Windows formatting may prevent USB thumb drive from being read correctly and will fail if used to flash firmware on 4,8 or i series
MFPs
a. Sometimes error messages dealing with Write Protection, or unreadable disk, etc may occur
b. When inserted into the machines the firmware will simply not load, or not load properly

SOLUTION:
Follow the instructions in the attached PDF to run it, fix the MBR and format the USB thumb drive cleanly.

Interesting to read, i've ONLY ever used Windows to format my USB pens & never had to use any 3rd party software.

I don't use 3rd party software, too. diskpart is part of windows. I didn't use HPUSB.exe or any else - only diskpart.
