Have one of these machines that is copying light, and internal prints are light to,did a machine shading test but still light.Could the drum unit be bad it only has 24,000 copies on it.

This is basic, have you cleaned the Laser assembly?

Remember that digitals are reverse symptoms of analogs.
ANALOGS dust(dust+toner) on slit glass=Darkened copies
DIGITALS dust(dust+toner) on slit glass=lightened copies

yes optics,glass,laser, and slit glass has all been clean, still light copies.
