Hello all!
Clients 754e "jams" as a 72-21 after every first page fully reaches the main output tray, sub tray and booklets are fine.
Took out and cleaned PS16. Cleaned the sensor that's looking up on the eject drive
Any thoughts?

Here are my suggestions:

Misfeeds (72-18, 72-17, 72-21, 72-19) with FS-534. The first set ejects properly. The second set skews, and the third set piles up upon the second. Set eject belts are out of time, skewing the sets. Paper cuts in the stapling tray shift guides may result, catching the paper, flipping corners. Re-time set eject belts. Disassembly is not necessary. If the regulating plates are damaged, remove stapling tray shift guides to replace, or temporarily file smooth paper cuts. Or replace regulating plates (1 ea: A3EPPP5P01, A3EPPP5V01, A3EPPP5X01, A3EPPP6301, A3EPPP6401, A3EPPP6501). If paper is curled before copying load paper with curl upward.

Flipped leading edge corners. Accompanied by J72-21 jams. Set eject belts are out of time, skewing the sets. Paper cuts in the stapling tray shift guides may result, catching the paper, flipping corners. Re-time set eject belts. Disassembly is not necessary. If the regulating plates are damaged, remove stapling tray shift guides to replace, or file smooth paper cuts. Thanks for the suggestions! Pages are not skewed, and from what I can tell the eject belts are in line. Paper seems to be coming out perfectly, and even if the job is only one page it codes as soon as that page exits. Opening the door and closing the door gets rid of the code till the next job

The motor that drives the eject belts has a timing wheel that just snaps onto the pulley. I've seen the snaps break that keep the timing wheel attached. I have successfully hot glued the timing wheel back on. There isn't any drag, but it must be securely attached.

If you order a replacement, there are old-style and new-style motor, pulley and timing wheel. There are no less than (5) bulletins with changes to the eject section. Let me see if I have the bulletin you need:

If you need to change the eject section, my suggestion is to order the new style assembly with all the updates.

Interesting, so it might be completely unrelated to the PS16? I had taken a look under the eject assembly and all looked well, but I wasn't paying super close attention to those 2x timing wheels. And just to confirm, you are talking about the "sprockets" A3EPPP7804(old)/A87HPP7400(new)?

Correct. Sprocket is a misnomer. A sprocket is used to drive a chain. These are timing wheels. Maybe its just another poor translation from Japanese. =^..^=

Prior to excessive troubleshooting make sure your machine is on latest FW.

Error
jam code 72-21

Root Cause
FS-533/FS-534, jam code 72-21.

Workaround/Fix
CAUSE: Possibly a failed sensor, motor or Finsher Control Board (FSCB). Additionally, firmware may require updating.

SOLUTION: Before troubleshooting any components, ensure that any firmware requiring an update is installed (latest version).

1. Check Paper surface detect sensor/1 (PS102) at FSCB CN102 and replace if necessary. (p/n A2YUPPT800) 2. Verify Paper exit motor (M102) operation at FSCB CN109 and replace if necessary. (p/n A2YUPPW400) 3. If jamming still occurs, check if CP102 is OPEN on the FSCB. If so, replace the board (p/n A2YUPPH901).

Thanks but I'm not seeing anything about a PS102 sensor in the service manual? I do see Connector 102, but that's for the 535 not 534

Edit: And yeah, that P/N for the board was the FS-533, and the PS102 is also for the FS-533
