I have 2 machines - a 654e and a 554e - in the same building, both constantly giving CE301 codes every 10-20 minutes, even if the machine isn't being used.

I unplugged the network cable and it hasn't happened since. I doubt it's bad print data since there's no job coming through when it happens. Any ideas?

Did IT set the proper permissions for the unit. I have seen this when trying to use devices on the same IP

Most ideas would start with question are they at latest FW versions?

Connect your laptop direct to the machine with a patch cable see this causes the issue etc.

And as other have said update the firmware & function level.

Already updated FW and function version. No difference.

And what about connecting a laptop direct ?

This can rule out the network being the issue.

There is a bulletin for this. Firmware related. I am assuming that the following is a Special Firmwareż

Error E301,E304,C4091Root Cause
CE301/CE304/C4091 is indicated and MFP locks up (freezes).
Workaround/Fix
CAUSE: Firmware bug.
SOLUTION: Please install firmware versions GC3A9
(nonLK) and GD3A9 (w/LK101v3 installed).
The firmware is normally available for download from One Stop Product Support. In this case, firmware for the bizhub C454e/C554e/C654e/C754e can be downloaded from a special FTP site (ftp://special:12345@cscsupportftp.mykonicaminolta.com bizhub_C454e_C554e and bizhub_C654e_C754e folders). This firmware will fix the error code/freeze issue, but may create an offset image issue when printing via the PCL driver. The offset image issue is being investigated. Note: Please refer to attached Program Release Information prior to installing the firmware. To view

"CE301 Referring incorrect memory"

Good advice. If the special firmware doesn't fix the issue, certainly look at the network. Machines sitting idle are still engaged in network communications.

If they throw a code there is a chance some form of abnormal communication is behind it.

I've recently seen a case where a poorly configured DHCP server was causing 'code while idle' which was a memory write error. This is an on-going investigation with some side traffic that looks malicious but hasn't been verified.

Stay Vigilant!

I think CE301 ist mentioned all the time in the different FW version changelogs ;)

Won't help if any bullshit-data from the network or corrupt print jobs are the real cause.

Not the easiest thing to diagnose, if you have an experienced IT rep I would suggest a wireshark capture. This can identify if it something coming from the network and you can either disable a protocol or hand the problem back to the customer. E

I had one where it ended up being a HDD issue

It turns out this has been an ongoing issue for a couple of months (which is odd since the customer acts like this is the first they've heard of it). The regular tech has been trying to get their IT to sort it out but they seem to be quite stupid.

I've seen this problem on several machines. Problem was the router, esp. FritzBox!.
Try disable IP6 or a simple switch between network and machine, this seems to 'filter' out what is causing the machine to freeze.
