Images have started smudging, called tech out and said fuse needs replaced, cost $250 + labor.

Checked maintenance log and fuse nearly half use left, I hate to spend that kind of $ when the fuse life not fully up.

Assuming tech is right can I replace this myself? If so where do you recommend I buy the fuse (4040-0767)? $250 seems a bit much...

Thanks!

Not sure where your getting your info from but that is not the part number for a C250 fuser. may be for bizhub 250 - note the lack of a C - small BW machine.

Sometimes parts fail early, it is unfortunate but sometimes you just have to suck it up and pay the man to ensure you get the job done right.

If you do have a C250 that price is dirt cheap and i would be questioning why, there is no such thing as a recondtioned fuser for the C250, just 2nd hand with a new reset fuse. I would charge you at least 3 times that here + labour to fit a new fuser. The part number should be more like 4048RXXXX. (not at work so I can't look it up)

The price is probably more reasonable for a bizhub 250 but I have done very little with them, spend more time on the colour range.

Cheers.

Yes it's definitely the C250, I tried looking up the fuse # as well and came up with a different number like you...makes it difficult to determine the actual price.

If, like your saying that's dirt cheap then I will absolutely suck it up and pay the man:)

We can't buy the fuser for $250 here, not sure about over where you are.
Just make sure you are aware that parts going into your machine are new/used/whatever.
Me personally every customer off contract will pay full rrp price but they will always get a new unit.

Good luck.

Check if your fuser unit is not in enveloppe mode

The C-250's fuser is a fairly worthless POS, so make sure you're getting a new unit as suggested by the others. Did the tech say what specifically was wrong with yours?

...And how would the tech know without even coming out that it is your fuser? Smudging can be caused by many things, such as a dirty transfer belt and belt cleaner unit.

Make sure as mentioned, that its not set in envelope mode and that you have the proper paper settings (i.e. thick setting for thick stock, normal for regular paper, etc)

The FUSER unit part number is: 4038R77311 - The part number you gave, 40400767 isnt a valid Konica part number. $250 is a great deal being that MSRP is 3 times that.

Dogsbody, I should be able to get you that fuser for $250

My cost on a new C-250 fuser is only $162 before any discounts and they have MSRP at $265. The 250 fuser is much cheaper than say the C-450 or some of the newer models where the dealer cost is close to $400 bucks.

Oh..... and the word of the day is
FUSER!fuser, the part of a laser printer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_printer) that melts the toner onto the medium
