Hi,
End user on my side of a Bizhub 4050, i would like to know how to read the actual firmware information and how to update it if a newer one exists.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Advise endusers not to attempt updating firmware. If the machine is not working the way they want it to, then updating firmware by a technician is advised.

For a person familiar with updating the firmware the most likely outcome is no-change in performance. The second most likely outcome is to brick the machine. The third most likely outcome is reduced functionality.

For a person unfamiliar with updating firmware the most likely outcome is to brick the machine.

Hi,
@blackcat4866, thanks for your reply and warning regarding firmware update on my own.
I'm fully aware of the risks.
I would like in the first place as stated to know which firmware version is installed on my Bizhub 4050 via the control panel, then forward the version to the community and "maybe or maybe not" trying to update it with the help of the community and with the appropriate procedures.
Thanks all for your reply.

Hi,
I was able to find this on my own
https://i.postimg.cc/0KDpNd97/Firmware-1.jpg (https://postimg.cc/0KDpNd97)https://i.postimg.cc/6y6rKZD4/Firmware-2.jpg (https://postimg.cc/6y6rKZD4)
Am i up to date ? or a newer version is available ? If so where to find it ?
Thanks.

There is a version 13: G0B-W99 Controller, newer than yours.

And I will repeat: If the machine works, there is no need to update ... unless you were hoping for a brick. =^..^=

Ultimately what is your goal? I'm sorta firmware update obcessed junky but most folks here like the approach - keep it simple working or Kiss and it works 99+%

@blackcat4866,
Thanks for your reply, as i already save the printer from being destroyed initially, i don't mind to brick !
If you want to share the newer version with me, it will be great otherwise...
Thanks.

Sorry, you'll have to find someone else to help you brick the machine. I won't do it, for your own good. =^..^=

@tsbservice, @blackcat4866,
Yes the equipment works fine with the actual firmware !
On the other side, why the manufacturer delivers new firmware then if not to resolve bug, improve the equipment, fight the planned obsolescense etc...
Thanks for your help anyway !

Cat is correct..these are not KM devices, but lexmarks..firmware is Engine, controller, and web browser/non web browser. Each firmware must be put on in a very particular step by step or as he mentioned you get a brick..Maybe you could post what you are trying to accomplish..I have trained techs that screw this up from time to time. many vendors sell other manufactures equipment with their name on it, this just happens to be a Lexmark device with a KM badge on it. Auto dealers do the same thing..

I've heard French techs are really helpful. Makes me wonder why his woes aren't answered...

Explain how he could 'brick it' I'd be interested to hear your opinion ?

Wrong firmware, no the machine won't except it.

I guess the only way would be powering the machine off half way through the update, but even then starting the update again would resolve the issue.

The firmware update process is covered in most service manuals so simply follow this procedure to the letter, if you can read you can't go wrong.

Those Lexy 4050 are totally messed. Just read what emujo wrote. You have to be very carefull with combination of versions on:
1. Engine Firmware
2. Sub controller firmware
3. Main controller firmware

Hi,
I still don't get it how you can positively assume this a lexmark machine. I browse all day and nowhere i've seen that the Konica Minolta Bizhub 4050 belongs to Lexmark ! Here is a picture of the rear label:

I might be wrong, if so give me a proof, it's definitily the gesture i need to believe !
Oh, by the way, i'm not an IT guy, but i'm at ease with technologies...

Even if you hadn't worked on both models, like many of us have, Just look at them side by side. What do you think?:

A lot of manufactures rebadge machines.

There is a shortage of Konica Minolta toner due to a warehouse fire so i'm using the equivalent Lexmark toner.

Maybe from outside they are not 100% same but if you look inside you will see it is really exactly the same parts and layout.

About the photo comparing the 2 machines, sorry to interrupt you, but this Lexmark is identical to the Bizhub 4020 and not the Bizhub 4050, you have confused them! :p
Also, their machine software is the same.
