7235 Shading only with ADF

This one has me puzzled. Customer has a 7235 that intermittently has a shaded background only from originals run through the ADF. By shaded background I mean a graduated background going white to medium grey lead to tail end.

have you tried radf scan density adj?

Does it do this when set to manual exposure mode too? Ran the radf scanning density adj with a good solid white a4 sheet?
