I have a 1610 that the adf isn't working. The adf will feed fine one minute and the next it isn't working. The gear train that brings the take up rollers down just sit there and vibrate they don't turn to bring the rollers down. I have replaced the main board and the adf board. It worked for a little bit and then the same thing happens again.

My next step is to replace the drive motor for the adf.

Any other suggestions, please let me know.

The only problem I've had with the feed rollers on that feeder, is the seperation pad under the roller. When it wears down, the rollers fail to drop down and feed paper. It puts torque on the conveyance roller and causes the pick up roller to drop down to feed.

It is at a prison, so maybe one of the inmates will steal it. Fat chance.

So I will have to work thru it.

ok, in that case is the motor making anyking of noise? buzzing? humming?
an overloaded stepper motor usually makes some kind of racket.

I removed the motor and it just sits there and vibrates it doesn't turn. The weird thing is it will work for a very short time and then it just stops turning.

Well since you went the board route first, I'd change the motor next.. bad/worn steppers tend to intermittently work or have no torque or just sit there and chatter at ya!
