I have a konica minolta 5501/6501 with an embedded fiery controller. Macs are running 10.5.8. Fiery is running version 2.0. When you say file print there is the tab listed that says full properties that should show the driver just like windows. The problem is that on my customers macs you just get the spinning beach ball of death and nothing happens on all 3 of their Macs.
Has anyone seen this before or have any idea? I have a macbook pro and running 10.5.8 myself. When i crossover into the copier and load the same driver it works like a champ. My guess is they have some kind of application on their macs that is causing some kind of conflict here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It could be one of two things that I can think of.

1. Application / Mac setup is having an issue with the driver and just as you said, conflicting with the driver.

2. The disk / file used to install the driver on to the Macs was corrupt. Try removing all the files associated with the driver and then download and re-install the driver package.

PS. Which print protocol are you using? Bonjour / TCP / Apple Talk?

I'm guessing more likely 1. since the driver is part of the OS and it's only a ppd which is effectively a text file which describes printer capability.

Unless the ppd is in the wrong place and the OS has to go and index it when the user tries to print a document or go into printer properties which sounds unlikely if the installer package was run when installing the ppd and it wasn't manually copied into the 'correct' location (en_lproj folder or somewher similar ???)

Good shout about the protocol btw !!! :o)

It's likely that really really really annoying pain in the sphincter issue that is the bain of my existence in ALL MACS. Every time Apple comes out with a new version, the drivers for the version before it are broken. They might have the wrong version on their macs, likely taken from either the disks or from the driver downloaded from the fiery itself.

If they are using the IC 408 (grey box attached to back of machine) here are the drivers for that series. Mac near the bottom, specific versions listed.

I don't know if you all know, but there is now additional data that belongs with the PPD's that is kept in another folder somewhere.

I had an issue with 10.4 drivers installed on a 10.5 machine which was causing issues with the Account tracking on the copier. Konica Minolta addvisied me to delete the other associated files as just simply installing the 10.5 package wasn't enough to get everything working.

After deleting these files (sorry, can't remember the directory structure) and then installing the 10.5 package, everything worked like a charm.

Use the finder and try to find a folder called Konica Minolta or EFI or Fiery. This is the objects that need to be removed before you attempt to re-install the driver package.

I am thinking of buying a Konica Minolta 6501 but would like to ask users of this machine what they think of it? Do you have any problems?

As before, start a new thread with your question instead of hijacking another.

I am a Mac Book Pro user running Leopard & XP. I deal with IC408, IC303/305 & IC304 everyday and never have an issue. Trick is to use correct drivers and proper installation.
