I have a C350 that began printing grey fuzzy copies from what was scanned using the ADF. After restarting the machine it is giving a C0040 Suction Fan Motor error and it sounds like the only fan that is running in the unit is in the finisher. I am not sure where to go to from here on this one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

There is no fan in the finisher. Or are you referring to the fusing unit? Finisher is KM's name for sorter. Fuser is what melts toner to page.

Regardless...

see attached file regarding fan unit that is giving you the 0040 error.

Open the right side door.

The second transfer transport assembly covers over top of that fan. The transport assembly is held in place by two plastic tabs on the front and rear sides of the assembly. Gently prying those apart will allow you to unhook the assembly. It is spring loaded, but not dangerous. Be careful when handling this. Do not let any oils or fluids touch the second transfer roller (spongy roller). Be careful not to drop this unit, it is held on by a harness. You should be able to move it to the side just enough to gain access to the fan.

The fan beneath is a snail shell design. These use sleeve type bushings as the bearing. They have a finite lifespan. If they are fine, simply tapping the fan with a finger to spin it should yield a free spin for several revolutions, otherwise, the fan is toast and needs to be replaced. They are not serviceable. You can try, but the results we've had are mixed.

When returning the second transfer assembly back on the door, line up the springs to the respective pocket holes on the door itself and then clip into the front and rear tabs.
