As near I can tell, according to the "advanced operations" user manual, the bypass tray will not accept metric paper sizes. Only trays 1-3 can accept metric sizes.
According to the FSM, in tech rep, system settings, auto paper configuration, you can set the machine to "inch/metric" or "inch". The former is regardless of marketing area. There is no indication that the bypass tray can accept metric, even when metric is set in tech rep. You might be able to set marketing area to european or japan, not sure if that will work either truth be told.
