macosx print setup for cf2001

i have a cf1501/cf2001 connected directly to one mac with an ethernet cable


after setting up a new printer with the ip address - something like 192.168.254.6
the computer cannot connect to the printer

i have been using lpd
with a static not auto gererated ip address
and need to know what the settings should be

i can send or show the configuration page from the printer if needed

was working but now is not making the connection
am thinking it is just one setting somewhere

Here are the two options when using IP Printing:

LPD - when using this to make the connection to the copier, you must use the correct queue names on the printer. In this case (correct me if I'm wrong but I think you could only get the Fiery option for this machine) the queue names are 'print', 'hold' and 'direct'. Try using 'print' or 'direct' in lower case.

HP JetDirect Socket (aka RAW Port 9100) - Using this protocol means that you don't have to guess the port name as there isn't one. You will however need to make sure that Port 9100 is enabled on the Fiery print controller. Print out a config page and have a look under 'Service Setup' which is under the 'Network Setup' field. If it isn't, turn it on and set it to use the print queue.

I try to use the HP JetDirect Socket on Macs when ever possible because there is one less thing to worry about.

So when setting up the printer, use the following as a rough guide:

1. Printer Setup Utility (Or printers in OSX 10.5 and up)
2. Add Printer
3. Select 'IP Printing'
4. Select 'HP JetDirect Socket'
5. Enter in the IP Address of the controller / copier
6. Choose the correct driver (PPD) from the device

thanks for your informative response

after much experimentation
i discovered that the ip address for my mac had changed

i kept making adjustments to the printer and to the print settings
without considering that the ip address i was assigning to the printer no longer matched that of the computer therefore the "cannot connect' message

once i assigned the printer a matching (except last number) ip everything connected
