P-51 is an open front door
The front door pushes a rod that actuates a switch in the back of the machine. If you were replacing a gear for around the fuser this is the general area. Have a look when you open the front door, approximatly above the fuser you will see where the front door pushes the rod. It is a straight line to the rear of the machine where you will find the interlock switch.
It has been a very long time since these machines were current but that should be the area to look.
Cheers. The force will be with you always. -
It should disappear as soon as you close the door. Either the switch is disconnected, malfunctioning or the door isn't activating the switch.' "But the salesman said . . ." The salesman's an asshole!'
