Hi,

We've recently purchased a ColorForce 8050 from a print shop that went out of business and got it working again where it can make copies and stuff. I'm now trying to set it up so I can print to it from Windows. I know how to add network printers and install drivers and stuff, but I've never dealt with anything like this.

I've got the copier networked, and I can see it fine by pinging the IP address I assigned to it. Unfortunately, I'm a little lost on what I need to do to actually set it up for printing.

I've read online that this copier interfaces with a Fiery print controller. I'm not sure if this has an embedded IP-921 print controller, or if there even is one in there. I don't see in the menu where I can print out like a configuration sheet or something, and the web based interface that I get when putting the IP address in my browser doesn't really tell me anything either.

Assuming there is a Fiery print controller embedded, I've downloaded the Fiery Command WorkStation software and attempted to connect to the copier. It asks for a password, which, after looking online, the default password is either 0000, fiery.1, or Fiery.1. When I try any of these, it says "Unable to connect to (192.168.1.10). The server name or IP address may be invalid."

I'm not sure if this is not the correct software I'm supposed to be using to interface with the copier or what. I've also downloaded the drivers for the IP-921 and have attempted to just add it as a printer in Windows, but after sending a test page, it never prints and results in an error.

I guess what I need to know is,

1) How can I find out if there is a print controller built into that copier, and if not, does that mean that we can't print from Windows?

2) If there is a print controller, what software do I need in order to interface with it?

3) Is there a way to print out a configuration page through the menu on the copier?

Thanks

Hi there, answers in following order.
1.) is there a print controller, Look on right side of machine do you see on RJ-45 ethernet port or two of them, if there are two, you should plug your network cable in to the one closest to the back panel.
2.)The software you downloaded should work, if not get the software from Konica-Minolta's web site, The software for the CF5001 will work also.
3.) When the machine is powered on, if there is a print controller, you will see a small computer icon in the touch panel, top left, touch the icon and it will go to the print controller status page. from there you will have the options you are looking for.

I always found it easier to set the tcp/ip address in the machine and then create a tcp/ip port in windows to print to the copier. You will have to configure this manually.

So I don't see any computer icon in the top left corner. But there is an RJ45 port on the side. Is the print controller not being recognized by the copier?

if there is only 1 rj45 port you do not have a embedded controler. if you dont have the controler you will not be able to print to the copier. i wouldask the folks you bought the unit from where the controler is its pretty much useless as anything but a print controler.

That's what I needed to know. No wonder the Command WorkStation couldn't find it. Thanks.

I see the controller Icon in the pic you posted. I'd be willing to bet your ethernet cable is not plug into the proper port.

Hit the Print key ( next to the scan and copy key) and then run the server set up. Set the name up and the IP and all the other network info. If ya didn't set it up in the fiery menu's your not going to get it to work. It will ping but never print because its not desinged to print from that port.

Once ya get it working you can do (from the run command). //serverip/Print. Or //servername/Print. (Server being the Fiery. I usually set it up as C500 (or whatever model its on)
Hth.

Where do you see the icon? I have only been around the IP 901 but it says "idle" pretty much by where it is asking for toner.

Yeah, I only have 1 network port. I was able to order an IP-901 off eBay for $200, so that should get me going.

I'm sorry, I was looking at this on my phone. It DID (on my phone) look like that was the controller icon I was refering to. Man... and I even spend some time today taking pictures of our C500 on our demo floor. LOL

Did you get a cable with the IP-901 ya ordered? I HOPE so.

The IP921 can be seen in Pic A circled in Red. The Machine NW port is circled in blue

Note the group of 5 LEDs directly below the Parallel port, the bottom 1 should be lit green. Below the RJ45 is the network activity LEDs

Controller Icon can be seen in Pic B

Couple of IP901 in Pic C

Yes, the one I got came with the SCSI cable. It should be coming in today.

What's the purpose of the other network port (the NW port in blue) if you can't use it for printing to?

Its for machine administration, Remote Panel and setting up scan addresses. etc etc.

$200 for an IP901 whats wrong with it?

They are a bit out of date now but a surely a good working one is worth more than that.

$200 sounds like a good deal for a complete working 901. (Big blue) suckers are kinda heavy so shipping might bite ya some.

Easiest way to set it up is to let it grab an Ip and then go into it via the web page.

You will likely need the user manuals to help you further...

This link is the user manuals for the IP901

Konica Minolta Knowlegebase (http://207.194.48.151/intranet2/browse.php?sess=0&parent=4698&expand=1&order=name&sortname=ASC)

and this link for the user manual on the C500

Congratulations on the nice deal. A working 901 for that price is a bargain. Well done!
