Have a customer running a small copy shop. They are useing 2 c450's now and they have been sold on upgrading to a pro c 500 by someone. They are convinced it will run card stock better. Anybody have an oppion on this move? I know both machines are on the old side but we have to go with their budget. I researched cost per copy and it looks to me like the c450 wins, i'm just not sure that this is a move up for the customer or the service provider,(me) looks like to me it is sideways at best, and the paper specs look the same. Thanks

If it were me, I would stick with the C450. We find them to be a great workhorse and the cost per copy is minimal (due to chips and fuses).
The C500 is a decent machine if properly looked after but running costs can be high.

If you were talking the C5500 then I would say go for it, but I personally wouldn't touch a C500.

Hope this helps.

If it is a newer machine they are looking for, get them into the newer lines like the C451 or C452 series (550, 552, 650, 652 variants), which are vastly superior to the C450 and, for that matter, the C500. Paper stock is limited to 80lb 12x18 from bypass, or 67lb out of ALL the other trays, unlike the C450 which can only set paper weight on tray one or bypass, maximum 67lb.

If they are looking to do 100lb stocks, unfortunately the C500 is the only choice.

Pro c500 can be very cheap but can't print a single chart. Every turn on copier uses toner, units, belt etc. Simply need print only when have big job to submit (because this is production machine).
