Seem to be bumping into these quite a lot can sometimes cause a headache but anyway.

Am I right in thinking they work like so

1) new bottle goes in machine
2) machine read barcode number off toner chip
3) machine records number then counts down until empty

It doesn't actually write back to the chip or does it ? So when its empty does it block that chip or say if I took that empty cartridge and put it in another machine would it detect it as 100% or empty ?

If I had one on 50% and took it to another machine would that also read it as 50% full ?

Just curious.

Cheers for any insight,
Fishy

I love anything Barcode ;D

Bang on! Pretty much :) I have a feeling the chip does "store" it's count somewhat. I think the fact that you swapped a Cartridge into another machine pretty much answers the question.

This article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RFID), although a tad crap, might help :)
