Hi,
I have just bought Konica Minolta Bizhub pro C5501 and I have a huge problem with grey tones. Here is a sample in attachment so that you can see the problem. This is Adobe Illustrator CS 4 print of grey, printed from CMYK 50% of each color (4 colors) from Fiery. Much of yellow, blue and everything else except grey. The machine is new.
My customers are very disappointed with the quality of prints and it is a big problem for me. I also have an old Xerox Docucolor 242 with 500.000 prints and it’s much better than the new C5501!
The problem is in grey prints only, on all papers and all sizes. Color print is great but in grey, it is a very poor print…
Engineers from customer service who have sold me C5501 told me that this is normal for this machine???
Can anybody help me solve this problem?

I had the same problem, and I must tell you I did not manage to solve it. They seem to be to disadvantage

Don't try to create grey from CMYK. Use only % of K and turn on "Pure Black" on the Fiery. I have my customers running this way and it produces much better results.
Also make sure the Fiery was calibrated with a spectrometer.

Tell your tech to drop the 2nd transfer roller pressure to low... this should help.. and mention to the tech to enable "thick paper mode"
