Currently we are in need of a reliable network printer (B/W is sufficient) that shoots out about 10,000 pgs/ month, that has network scanning in COLOR, network printing, fax system, stapling (hole punch would be nice but not necessary). So far the choices I have received so far - Trying to keep it below $4000: Please keep in mind i'm not a tech.

Kyocera KM-4050/5050
Kyocera C4035E
Samsung 6545N

I just want to get a reliable piece of equipment for the office here and not have it break down at the slightest provocation.

I initially started a thread in the newbie forum sometime ago. Unfortunately we were told to put any and all purchases on hold for a few months. Hence, I'm back.

We have xp's & one win7 operating system here. The server/shared drive we are using is on a Windows Server 2003 if any of this helps

Maybe I should start a thread somewhere asking which brand is the best brand?

I would stick with the Kyocera KM 4050 . Black and white.

Samsungs are made cheap and I'm not thilled with them.

You said you are not a tech. ?? What business are you in?

If your budget is about $4000.00 you will be able to get a low metered used one. Under 100K . New would retail for about $8,000. I don't think they make the KM-4050 new anymore. But low milage used is a good way to go. Cost to maintain them is resonable.

Thanks for replying. We are in the restaurant business, corporate office. Just wanted to order a good ole' reliable network printer, and don't want to get ripped off - These printer vendors can be pretty aggressive with "their units" being the "better deal" if you get my drift.

I came here b/c I have no idea which or what is the "better deal" I just figured I would find some knowledgeable responses to my question by this is printer tech environment an all

I do appreciate you mentioning about those Samsung units. It seems they all want to push those. So should I stick with a Kyocera brand or different one all together at the price I mentioned? Thanks again for all your help

I would just go with the KM -4050 . Kiss . Keep it simple. Forget about 3 hole punch and stapling. The more options on a machine the more problems. Hand a stapler to the office girl if you need stapling. ( Or office guy )

I am a member of 3 or 4 techs sites and you don't see a lot of problems asked about the Kyocera equipment.

You being in Houston, Texas . There are plenty of dealers there that sell this machine I bet.. $4000 can get you a used, low metered machine.

Hope this helps.

Mr Bill

The Samsung is not a bad box. We've got 1M+ on a couple machines, but they only do 8 1/2" wide paper. The Falcon III (KM-4050, KM-5050) are extremely reliable and inexpensive to operate. They'll also do 11" wide paper. The VoyagerE (KM-C4035E) is a pretty reliable color machine, but like any color machine will require additional service and cost to maintain.

If color is not that important, I'd recommend the KM-4050, KM-5050. =^..^=

does the 4050 indeed scan in color ?, I thought it only scanned in b/w

Yes, Falcon III does scan in color. The Samsung is a black & white only scanner.

The definitive test is to look at the color of the light from the scan lamp. White light indicates color and black & white scanning. Green light indicates black & white only scanning. =^..^=

One word on stapling -ask yourself if this is something you can really live without.

If most all of your jobs are 1 page (duplexed or not) it's no big deal, but if most jobs require it, an auto-stapler would be worth its weight in gold.

Nope color is not that important... as long as it scans in color. Thanks for the note!!!

Ken B - we definitely need a stapler. We can do without the 3 hole punch but, right now its taking 4 days to do something we can do in 1 b/c we've been outsourcing to office depot.
