I am trying to replace the optional hard drive in a C350 with a WD 120GB 5400/8MB 2.5" Mobile PATA Hard drive.
The physical format will complete fine (runs through % complete up to 100%), but the logical format will instantly jump to 100% NG. The copier is turned off and back on after the physical format.
The message I get after the physical format (and after the failed logical format) is "HDD cannot be accessed. Contact your administrator."
I thought I would try updating firmware before trying another drive (maybe an 80GB) but have been unable to find the firmware update.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

You won't be able to access the firmware unless you are a certified KM tech. It voids a servicer's contract to give out the firmware, so you will be stretched to find someone who will give it to you.

I recommend trying a different drive. I personally use the drives at the following link on those machines, and have had success with them many times:

Newegg.com - Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD800BEVE 80GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" PATA Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136129)

I don't know if there is a drive size limit, maybe someone else can speak to that. The drives I use are very similar to the one you have used.

In the past I have accidentally plugged the cable in backwards, and was actually able to get a physical format done, only to have error messages after rebooting. Swapping the cable fixed it. Just a few things to try.

Good luck.

I tried the Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD800BEVE 80GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" PATA Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive as suggested but got the same problem. Physical format OK, but NG on the Logical.
I read somewhere that older firmware could cause this, so I am back to thinking that flashing the firmware is the way to go, just can't get the firmware...
Thanks for the suggestion.
