$65/hr for printers, $79/hr for copiers + parts Canadian.

no more then two hrs, no body will pay you if you bill them for 3 hr.

Also, I will scare them away at frist place if I say $120/hr labor, instead I may offer initial T-shoot or take a look at the machine for no charge.

what do you think? yah!!!!

that\'s why i always want to go to america.
8-15 euro/hour and almost never bill the entire time. think that you have to change the fixing unit drive gear for a Konica 1112 (2 euro) and for 2 hours of work, to remove the CB, power source, main motor and put them back, tell them that you claim 1/10 of an (almost) decent salary here in Romania.

Chicago IL, Madison WI area serviced. $100 an hr plus 15$ travel charge.
It still isn't enough though. We checked our burden rate and it should be 125$ an hr, but this was done after we already raised from 75$ to 100$ and we don't want to give our clients " sticker shock". Determining your burden rate would help you to decide what YOU need to charge.:)
I have a spreadsheet that you can plug in the data and get your personal burden rate?????:D randolphj@martingroup.com if interested.

Charging for a job should be based on several variables:
-Service Call--Distance from Base(from $45.00 up)
-Labor--Machine sofistication/value(from $40.00/hour, min two hours)
-Parts-- used or projected to use.
-Shipping and Handling--Depends on the importance of the machine for the business.
-Emergency repair on the same day or can wait a couple of days?
-Customer "size/importance"
-New customer, old Customer, friend or relative?
As you can see is not easy, a book can be written about it. It all depends on "YOUR COST OF OPERATION" and next door "COMPETITION".
Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That seems really complicated, do you control it with any software (OMD, e-Automate) or do you just figure it out as needed?

Here in LA I charge $80 + parts.
Thats mainly on the Xerox High Volume.

I've heard that there are few around town that are charging $40/hr. These are mainly guys that have a "day Job" with a service provider, and are doing service on the side. This messes it up for legit techs trying to scrape by.

We are in Northwest NJ and we charge based upon distance from our office. Min. charge for a local call is $75 for 30 minutes. Just about everything evens out to $125 per hour. We just change the min. charge to make it worthwhile to drive farther. So if the customer is 45 minutes away we charge them for an hour even if we are there for 10 minutes. We don't charge any "travel fees" outside of the service rate.

Here in Baton Rouge, LA, the average seems to be around 100/hr. I suppose you have to consider the cost of living where your at. New York or Califorinia would obviously be more than other places. I personally charge 70/hr. After 15 years working for the big companies, I left to start my own, so now I undercut them all & give free estimates to boot. It helps that I don't have near their overhead & I like what I do. I love to beat their price on a p.m. or rebuild & make them look bad.

In my market, I can't go that high, much as I'd like to. Pittsburgh companies are as LOW as $100/hour for printer service.

I'm in the more rural areas up north, with some small fry competition. Average I pooled when doing my market research within a roughly 20-30 mile radius came to $44/hour.

I charge $55/hour with a 1-hour minimum, overage billed to the next quarter-hour, and a $15 trip charge. Networking is $75/hour. I also over a block program which can drive the per-hour rate lower starting at $1,000 for 2 years.

When I was working as an independent in central California back in the early 1980s thru 1995, I charged $85.00 @ hour with a one hour min. Now I work for a large company that charges $145.00 @ hr. In my area I don't do much T/M (time and material), but we have a huge Service Contract base. I don't like to talk about money with a customer. I just want to be able to do the work and let Admin do the billing. Easier that way!

Here in Odessa Texas the big dealerships are charging $150.00 per hour. The smaller businesses range from $80.00 to $125.00 per hour. I choose to charge $125.00 per call...not per hour and it has worked out rather well. Plus I get a mark-up on parts.
We are in what is probably the last boom for West Texas. No telling where the rates will go when the boom ends.

Here, we charge $96/hr in shop, $115/hr in the field.
Nobody will pay more than 1.5 hrs, sometimes 2 hrs.
Never more than that, even though I've spent up to 4 hrs on some machines.

Can't find techs for any kind of money ($15/hr is what we're paid, plus vehicle allowance), big shortage here in BC.

I will vary my rate by machine especially since business is not thriving. Small low cost machines are limited in that customers don't want to spend much for repair of machines that are replaced cheaply. So from $88 to 110 for firs 75 minutes..
On more sophisticated and expensive machines I will charge $125 to $165 per hour. Parts are never what Mfr suggests as in most cases that is not enough. If I spend $135 for a board I am not goint to charge $165 because the Mfr suggests it. What about the parts you buy to stock to have just in case. Many eventually get tossed.
If you are making good money nn recycled toners and drum units then you may want to be more reasonable or even cheap with service charge to keep the gravy train running and not allow machine to be replaced by something that you will lose 50% to 75% in revenue on supply items.
Hence,( like that word) when considering service charges, if you are in a position to be flexible then that is the best course. Frank/ActionPhotocopy
