Customer had message to replace and tech replaced drum unit then updated base firmware and then a code of C2A14 came up. Then installed new special firmware for turning off life counters and replaced with new drum unit. The code went away and this morningwhen machine came out of sleep mode the installation error came up.

New f/w posted on KM (US at least) site...turns off all I/U's Fuser, and X-fer belt messages. Works on C353, C650, C360, C652, 552, and 463 series. Emujo

Not heard of an X-fer belt (joke. Im assuming its a typo). I work for a dealer and we are using C2 on the C280 and C452 series and also on the 223 models. GFF-R6 on the C253 and C451 series.

You can reset belts and fusers on the new colour without f/w.

I have had this recently, but firmware wasn't involved. Ended up replacing image unit, mfp board, prcb, nvram, the actual sensor assembly itself & it's associated pcb behind the waste toner. Fault still came back. I think I have it isolated to the harness at the top of the mfp board. I have cut all the zip ties in that area & fanned out the harness. Seems OK at this stage.

i've had it happen with the wrong drum unit. all of the drum units in the c280 look identical but the black has a different part number of A0XV0RD the colors are A0XV0TD. hope this helps?

It seems I spoke too soon!

Have replaced the following
Black image unit.
Small harness & contact pcb that contacts IU
PWB-F Assy
PWB-MFP
PWB-MC.
Cut cable ties & loosen harness around plugs on PWB-MFP
Fault may dissapear for 6or7 weeks but then recurs.
Last 2 times I have been on site, fault has cleared by wiggling harness at MFP board.
I have checked every wire on every connector at MFP. I can not get fault to re-occur at will.

Any clues?

Not heard of an X-fer belt...
"xfer" would be abbreviation for transfer. I use that too on history logs.

sounds like you are having a wiring issue more than a software issue. you need to check the pin outs and see where the grounding is occurring in the harness. i would check resistance on all of your grounds.

also you may check to see if new release disable mode has been accidentally activated. it is known to cause weird issues with iu's.

PROBABLE CAUSES:
1. The New Release Disable mode has been activated. This mode is used for troubleshooting purposes only and temporarily disables the detection of new drums or developing units.
Open the front door, enter the Service Mode, select [Enhanced Security] then [Engine FW DipSW]. Touch key number 3 to change it from a highlighted state to a non-highlighted state. Close the front door and power cycle the machine. The machine will now detect a new unit has been installed and reset the life counter.
Note: To make sure that gradation reproducibility is guaranteed, perform Initialize + Image Stabilization, Gradation Adjustment and input the previous Dmax density adjustment value (if known) in Service Mode.

2. Soft Switch 59 is not set properly.
Please set Soft Switch 59 to Hex 01.
a. Enter Service mode.
b. Select System 2.
c. Select Soft Switch Setting.
d. Enter 59 for the soft switch number.
e. Select bit assignment and set the rightmost number to 1.
f. Touch Fix.
g. Touch exit.

I recently saw the K drum unit installation error on a Bizhub C452.

there are three thin contacts near the front end of the developer. One of them was bent when the drum was being lowered into position. I straightened the contacts. All is fine.

What is the exact ptoblem?
I thought all the drum units for CMY partaining to C 220 / C280 / C360 is same.
It should not make any difference.

Sorry, my mistake but CMY is identical & K is different, but same for all C220/C280/C360

I started a ticket with Konica.it was a logic problem fixed by replacing over all control board.

Two years seems odd. Mine was more once a week
