Was wondering if anyone else out there had any experience with this. We have a UV coater rigged at the end of or 6501 to feed as we print and then UV coat for a gloss shine. It normally looks great be we find that anything with alot of solid black in it tends to look dull. Anyone else have any experience with this?

if you get clouding on black you will want to find a way to run the substrate through faster. Some coaters can adjust the bulb intensity. Also a slightly thicker coating may also help. In some cases i've found a thick coating (so long as you dont get orange peel effect) helps cure better at the same speed strangely enough. What coating product are you using?

I have found that UV coating on a c6501 is painful. After the first year of operation and headache free UV coating, (after 2 PM cycles) the front and tail edge would keep scratching though the center was completely cured. Thorough testing pointed to the c6501 as the issue rather than the coater bulb / coating etc. We checked with the manufacturer of the coating and even got samples sent out of different fluids to test.

Im not sure what the problem was with the c6501 but UV consistency was poor. Even trying to get various techs to help solve the problem, the end solution was eventually that the operator switched to Ricoh products which seemed to be much more reliable even if the potential image quality of the ricoh was not as good as the c6501.
