Turn off/on the main power. The switch on lower left side, toward the rear of machine. this will initialize the scanner.

This worked for first five copies then prob returned, any other thoughts on how to eliminate that leading edge line?

Have you had work done to the copier recently? This is usually caused by a screw that was put in that is too long, or someone is copying books on the glass and pressing down real hard on the glass. Especially if it works for a little bit then comes back. The scanner is not going all the way to the left like it should.

I only cleaned the adf, no screws were removed. So its a home position problem?

Is the left side of the scanner drooping down?

In service mode, under PRINTER tab select EDGE ERASE. Make sure that these are set to 4mm and not bumped down any lower. Also make sure your scanner lock isn't engaged.

These adjustments are in SERVICE MODE/ ADF. mess around with the =/- setings and all should be good.

If it's an ADF (one-sided, feeds in at top left, exits underneath) then it could be worn out rollers. If edge erase is confirmed to be consistent. Try on the glass, if no black lines it's an alignment (broken hinge sockets/bent scanner) or reg/feeding problem (aka worn out feed rollers) or sensor timing/sticking problem. The PLASTIC hinge sockets on the ADF are known to break. They may look fine but if you pull them out the bottom sockets the steel pins fit into can be cracked. If the unit flops about when you grasp and move it left to right at the front or when you open it, I'd look at those.
I'm guessing plastic hinge sockets myself. Let us know.:D

Now that I think about it , broken hinge-sockets give a different symptom: picture of the rollers under the ADF. My bad. Glad it was as simple as pushing a few buttons!
