Is the unit asking for toner...or a drum unit?

try this. power off and open front cover. press and hold "go" while powering on. once the three led's are lit, release "go" button. now press "go" two times. led's should light solid. once lit solid, press "go" five more times. close cover and toner end should be reset.

hth,

I too was having the tone light blinking. I tried the fix suggested, unfortunately now the printer will not print. I tried factory reset and it doesn't seem to work.

Now with the power on the ready light is on steady and no toner light, but the fan runs all the time and it will not print. Was working OK except for the tone light before.

Any thoughts on how to get the printer back to factory defaults?

Got pic of gear and I will look for that, but this happened by just pushing GO button?
I'll check it. Thanks

Something else I noticed, when power is turned on unit doesn't turn on, just the fan.
Usually, the unit runs for a few seconds and then shuts down. Is there a fuse on the heater unit? Tried Raym reset, but after holding GO and powering on all lights come on, release GO lights go out, hit GO twice nothing is lit except the Ready lite.

This is for resetting toner.
Gulfboy I don't know what's solution to your problem.

Yeah, just reset the toner detection lever - it's a white thingy located at one side of the cartridge. You'll need to turn the dev-roller backwards while forcing the lever a bit so it moves about 45 degrees.

If resetting doesn't help then sometimes the toner is the problem.

Did you replace it with a generic or oem toner (http://www.quikshiptoner.com/catalog/brother-hl-2040-toner-cartridge.html)?

Sometimes generic toner (http://www.quikshiptoner.com/catalog/brother-hl-2040-toner-cartridge.html) causes this problem.
