Hi,

I have a Konica Minolta DI550, It's working fine but the printed documents have some thin/micro dots in the background, Not really that noticable but if i look closely i can see them all over the page.

What causes this? and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Yellow dots on background is a normal thing on Konica Minolta (but not only, almost all of new color printers or MFP's got something similar) machines since Bizhub C350 as I remember... This is for security purposes - it's just encoded serial number of machine, date and time when document was printed. You cannot turn it off.

Thanks for your reply, They're not yellow, The dots are black and very small, they're all over the background of the page like a powder.

It may be the usual over toning problem..just starting! Has the dev done 250k?

Gosh, I just realized that question was about DI550 not C550... sorry...

Is your copy/print grainy in touch?

If the dots are edge to edge of the paper you could have a toner contamination problem, are your toners OEM?

If your dots are not showing up on your edge erase section then go threw the charge and T/S coronas make sure thier clean then run F5. Also like the previous poster advised make sure your not over on your developer life. These machines had problems with over toning and it was a challenge to keep them running lean and clean.

Try running a bunch of sky shots and see if it clears some of the dots if it does definetly go threw the coronas and check developer.

I can't say I miss DI550. Have some upper fuser claws handy.

Good Luck

Regarding the developer:

I don't think it exceeded 250,000 prints yet, but the guy who got me the new dev 1.5 years ago didn't fully change it, he just added it to the old one.
I think i just printed no more than 70k.

Regarding the toner:

It's not OEM, but it's compatible and i never had problems with it until now.

It's either developer or drum. How many copies on the drum?

The drum is still new, it didn't even exceed 10k prints.

Thanks

If the Dev was not actually replaced as you say but just topped up, I still think it is the problem. Just topping it up does not work as the machine set up is affected ....even if the set up procedure is done!
