I have only plugged in a couple of these IC408's. On this one the lights around the ether net connects come on but that
is about all I see. None of the fans come on and the ICON on the touch screen does not illuminate, it remains grey.
I did take the cover off the IC408 and reseated connectors. No help, the HDD inside shows no sign of coming on.
I think it's dead. Any comments?

Thanks

You can try to pull the cmos battery and short it out to reset and then try that.
Otherwise replace the hdd and reload the o/s (which is not fun). You also could try the power supply.( I believe that it is a pc power supply with limited outputs.)

I bought one of these (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PC-LCD-20-24-Pin-PSU-ATX-SATA-HD-Power-Supply-Tester-/200677711798?_trksid=p4340.m185&_trkparms=algo%3DDLSL%252BSIC.NPJS%26its%3DI%26itu %3DUCI%252BUA%26otn%3D10%26pmod%3D260912193835%252 B260912193835%26po%3D%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D72679966 39903345282) a while ago.

It's cheap and tells you right away if a PSU is bad or not. Thanks to it I threw most of the stocked PSUs at home away because they were somehow faulty. It can also help to figure out if a PC doesn't boot because the PSU is bad or something else (the motherboard, for example).

It's another one of those tools a tech should always carry along.

Mr. Spock, interesting.
You say just pull the battery and short the terminals together. This acts as a reset.
I think I will try this today.

Mr. Who,
I agree having one of these gizmos would help eliminate a lot of guess work. And
I like having things like this handy, but I do not do enough of these to justify the
expense right now. I will mention it to the other guys I work with. They may have
some interest.

Thanks

I have an account that the power was going out about every ten minutes one day (power pole knocked down and the repairs were patches that kept breaking while they waited for a new pole and cables to correctly fix it). This lead to the ic408 bios to get corrupted and never boot (ff on the lcd) I did this and after shorting the battery terminals for 3 minutes it came up and has worked fine. I have done this on a few canon fiery's as well.

Mr. Spock

I did not get the chance to see this machine today, but will tomorrow.
I do remember that the two, 7 segment displays on top never lite up
with any code or test flash. Nothing.
I do have some firmware for the C6500, but not the fiery O/S.
Is that something that is downloaded from a thumb drive?

Thanks

Mr. Spock,
Thank you for your timely information. Here's what I did this AM.
Took the cmos battery out and shorted the terminals with a paper clip
for approx. 3 mins.
At the same time I disconnected all the connectors from the power
supply to try and get a voltage reading. I got no readings on my meter.
Put it all back together and the lights came on along with the fans.
Now I forget which item to turn on first, the machine or the fiery.
I know it sounds silly, usually I turn the machine on first.
So that is what I am doing now.

Thanks

So I turned them on at the same time. Seems to work.
I now have two zeros on the seven segment displays on the fiery.
I have printed out the PCL, PS, Pantone color pages, config page
and now I am doing the calibration.
Calibration only asked for the gray scale, shouldn't it also
scan in the Kodak color control patches?
I may have a driver for my laptop, I think I will try to install
that so I may print from my laptop for a test. Is that what the
big guys do?

Thanks

Scanner calibration - Uses both the grayscale and color strips
Printer calibration - Uses only the grayscale strip

Idealy you should calibrate the scanner first and the printer after that.

I wonder why it was not spelled out in the book or other documentation.
I'll do that later right now it seems to be doing fine, so I will let it be for now.

Thanks for all your help.
