When printing from a Mac running Lion the density looks like it has a limit of about 125/256. Same images from a Windows box look fine. Ever run into this? Apple had better start running beta testing. Seems like their last 2 upgrades really screwed the printing customers!

WOW WOW WOW, I logged onto the forum to post the same thing!! I have two C654's doing the same thing, both in churches, by the way are all up in arms over there programs, I was on hold with the kmbs hotline for over an hour, so I will try again before kmbs goes into their "employee wide meeting...." I hope there is a fix for this, if not...then yes we are screwed......

if you create a new printer using the built in generic postscript printer driver, does the same thing happen ?

at the very least you will know if its a bug on the machine or the KM driver. The generic postscript driver works OK on older models. (for basic printing only)

Talked to kmbs this morning, according to the tech on the hot line, kmbs has not released an official Mac Lion driver, so this may be the issue. I am looking into the kmbs site and verifying. I have an open ticket, I am requesting a specialists the next time I call back.

Interesting. I have a visit to the customer's site first thing tomorrow and was told they had escalated my ticket for a specialist to speak with me. We'll see how it goes. My salesman has 4 more C654's in the balance for this same customer. The "good" driver had better be in the pipeline or the next time I'm in Windsor they'll see my evil twin.

lol lol trust that makes two of us...hey I looked on the kmbs site, they just released a driver last week for 10.7, I will try to stop by my customer and load it and post the results, obviously whatever disc that come with the machine in regards to mac drivers are really for snow leopard. I am on the east coast so I don't know what time you will get my post, but just an fyi!

I tried the new driver you mentioned and it yielded no change. Got to speak with the KM specialist. His first comment was he didn't know much about Mac's. I mentioned that the Color Sync Utility had no profiles listed as installed for the C654. He never commented on that and I believe that is key with this problem. The copier shows no profiles associated with it after the driver is loaded. You can manually select a few profiles and they do change the output but they're not exactly what we need. In looking in the driver package I couldn't identify any ICC/ICM profiles present anywhere. Shouldn't the driver be the source of the profile? Where else would it come from?

yes, I was going to post that today..that new driver does nothing, and the hotline person I spoke with said that he"never" heard of the issue!!!! Sometimes those guys are useless....I am going to try the generic mac driver to see if it yields any changes, the catch would be for this particular account, I would need to allow printing without authentication due to this machine having account codes active. I will report back with what I find and I will also contact the hotline again to speak to this so called "specialists" :confused:line and see what they have to say, but from all indications, in the words of Kobe Bryant " They really screwed the pooch on this one..."

I reviewed your post again...so the km specialists will be no help to me if they couldn't help you... I will call just so they can have more complaints on the issue and actually start to look into it, but you are correct, most of the drivers allow you to set the color profiles, even with the new fiery's... on lets say a 6501, the new mac driver has the ability to set multiple profiles, whether it be color or gray scale..soooo if these machines had fierys we wouldn't even have this issue (fyi) , it all falls back to kmbs and the emperon controller:mad:

My manager had an interesting idea. He said to d/l the Fiery driver for the C654 and see if it has profiles. Well, ofcourse it does! Now, I need to see if the Mac will allow me to import those from the driver into the profile folder and see what happens. Since they are written for the same print engine (C654) it out to work and be more exact than anything they wrote for the Empiron. There may be hope yet. At least they didn't say, "load the latest firmware and call us back"

Guys which version of driver have you got? Is it version 1.2.0? released in march 15th this year?

In case you have not looked at the txt file with the driver: not sure if that may be any help.

6)Standard OS function and Printer function
There are 2 types of setting mode in the print setting screen;
one is set with OS, and the other is set with printer.
If printing is not done correctly, do not use the OS function.
The OS function is not applicable for the following.
- Mac OS X:[Output Method], [Layout / Finish], [Paper Tray / Output Tray],
[Cover Mode / Transparency Interleave], [Per Page Setting],
[Stamp / Composition] and [Quality].
7) [Printer Sharing] in MacOSX
Printer sharing in MacOSX is not supported in this printer driver.
When printer sharing is performed, the printer driver screen may not be
displayed correctly on the client computer.
8) Add Printer
When the driver is not automatically selected and the Generic PostScript Printer
is selected, please choose the printer driver you want to add.
9)Profile Download
If the download manager dialog is not displayed when you click Download Manager in
the Quality Adjustment screen, please start the download manager manually
via the application folder.
