Machine has about 173000 on the meter. Does not have any options, only the main unit. There is no issue when doing single side copies or prints. Happens when copy/print or internal test pages.
At first I was called out for jamming in duplex and the image would offset. I could not get the machine to jam but the image was offsetting from lead to trail edge. This distance from the lead edge is random. Some pages are good and some would be delayed as much as an inch or even two. I cleaned all the duplex rollers, clutches and the rollers in the switchback unit and still no luck.
I then went back out to the machine and replace both duplex clutches & checked all gears. I checked the entire paper path for any obstruction or unsmoothness on paper guides. No change.
I then went back out with a used switchback unit and it would jam on everything duplex. I put the original switchback unit in with no jams but still offsets. I wondered if the used switchback unit was faulty so I put it in a machine at the shop and it would work better but jam after a few duplex pages. I figured my used switchback unit was bad.
I then went back out to the machine and replaced the switchback M3 motor with a new part and did not help . I actually put the old M3 motor back in. At some point in the middle of all of this jams started happening when duplexing but I don't remember when. But the jams were random. Sometimes it would duplex 10 or 20 prints without an issue except for the offsetting or it would jam immediately. Sometimes multiple pages would enter the switchback unit. Sometimes it would print both sides on the same side and all kinds of random results.
I went back out again with one brand new sensor which works for the switchback and both duplex sensors. Previously I checked the sensors in I/O and found no issue there. I installed/uninstalled this sensor in each of the three areas which no noticeable difference from it's random jams and offsetting. I also replaced the spring & sensor arm for the switchback unit. I checked the sensor flags in the duplex areas.
Not sure what to do next. Machine has the latest firmware.
