Hi guys, done a MK on a 250ci and customer has called back a week later saying that it makes a clicking sound after print job has finished.

i have heard of it before but never read or been told the solution.

I think it is to do with the new fuser but cant get back there yet to try another one.
I went there on the initial call and it done it once and sounds like motor running on, sounds a bit like a ratchet turning????? no fault happening just the noise.

any ideas?

Sounds like you have fitted a modified black dev unit. This is a normal sound if you have, they now have a ratchet system to back off the dev roller to help stop toner spill. Just have to explain to your customer that its all ok.....

Cheers JSC that would explain why it only happened at the end of print job.

The drive gear was changed, it is now spring loaded with angled teeth so it drives in one direction only, at the end of print cycle the motor reverses and the gear skips, this causes vibrating to the developer unit so toner does not build up and cause splashing and specks of toner. Firmware was also updated to be used with the new units.

Sound is normal with the new modified dev units, different gear on the the back, "one way gear". Noise happens every 25 prints or so.

Well since the new firmware rotates the gear backwards to vibrate the unit you will most likely have issues soon.

Agree with you fully........But when a director sits across from the m/c and hears these random noises its a problem.80k prints later no issues yet."TOUCH WOOD"
